We are currently partnering with a great company who has 7 local branches and over 25 years industry experience seeking a Human Resources Manager to be the sole contact for a 100-200 person organization
Ideally seeking candidates who come from the manufacturing or distribution industry in a 100+ mid size company setting who have been the sole HR contact for the organization. This is a very hands on role where the role will initially focus on onboarding, recruiting, employee engagement/retention, and payroll then take on higher level functions such as FMLA and OSHA, etc.
This opportunity is based in Livonia, MI and will support 100-200 employees across seven locations.
Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on HR Manager to take full ownership of the Human Resources function. This is a sole HR role responsible for managing all HR operations, payroll, benefits administration, compliance, onboarding/offboarding, employee relations, and regulatory reporting.
This is a contract-to-hire opportunity , with the potential for direct hire for the right candidate.
The ideal candidate is operational, detail-oriented, and comfortable rolling up their sleeves in a fast-paced, high-turnover environment. This is not a high-level multi-state strategic role — it is a hands-on leadership position responsible for running the department day-to-day.
Key Responsibilities
HR Operations & Compliance
Develop and maintain HR policies and procedures
Ensure compliance with FLSA, DOL, FMLA, ADA, ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA
Maintain OSHA logs and submit required reports
Manage Workers’ Compensation and unemployment claims
Oversee leave management including FMLA and STD
Maintain DOT files (experience a plus; will transition over time)
Prepare and support annual 5500 reporting
Payroll & Benefits
Process biweekly payroll (Paylocity preferred; ADP or similar accepted)
Maintain timekeeping system and resolve timecard issues
Administer benefits enrollment, open enrollment, and vendor reconciliation
Manage 401(k) administration and contributions
Respond to wage garnishments and tax notices
Recruiting & Employee Relations
Manage full-cycle recruiting for primarily hourly workforce (approx. 70% hourly population)
Support high-volume onboarding and offboarding
Conduct exit interviews
Handle corrective actions and complex employee relations matters
Pro-rate pay, calculate vacation balances, and manage employment documentation
Qualifications
5+ years of progressive HR experience
Experience supporting manufacturing, distribution, or similar environments (Tier 2 vendor experience preferred)
Strong employee relations background
Experience managing payroll and benefits administration
HRIS experience required (Paylocity highly preferred; Employee Navigator a strong plus)
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field preferred
PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification preferred (flexible for strong candidates)
Strong confidentiality, attention to detail, and process documentation skills
