Job Title: Skilled Laborer
Job Description
The Skilled Laborer supports lead carpenters on commercial construction projects by working with metal and wood studs to help build walls, ceilings, stairs, windows, and doors. This role also involves safely moving materials around the job site, assisting with rough carpentry tasks, and helping the team meet project deadlines while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
Responsibilities
Assist lead carpenters with framing and rough carpentry using metal and wood studs.
Help construct and install walls, ceilings, stairs, windows, and doors according to project plans and specifications.
Read and interpret basic blueprints and follow directions to complete assigned tasks accurately.
Use common hand and power tools safely and effectively for a variety of laborer tasks, including framing, concrete, and drywall work.
Support concrete and cement forming activities as directed by the site leadership.
Move, load, and organize construction materials around the job site to ensure efficient workflow.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with OSHA standards and site safety rules.
Collaborate with carpenters, superintendents, and other team members to ensure project milestones and deadlines are met.
Perform blocking, drywall support, and other general labor tasks as needed throughout the project.
Follow all safety procedures, wear required PPE, and participate in safety meetings and training as required.
Essential Skills
At least 2+ years of commercial construction experience, with rough carpentry experience strongly preferred.
OSHA 10 certification or OSHA safety training applicable to construction environments.
Proficiency using common hand and power tools for construction and laborer tasks.
Experience with framing, including work with metal and wood studs.
Hands-on experience with concrete, cement, and forming work on commercial projects.
Ability to assist with drywall installation and related tasks.
Basic ability to read and follow blueprints and construction drawings.
Reliable work ethic with the ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in carpentry, including rough and finish work, is a strong plus.
Experience working on commercial construction sites, particularly institutional or campus environments.
Willingness to participate in apprenticeship or training programs to further develop trade skills.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Ability to work overtime when needed to support project schedules.

Work Environment
This position is based on a commercial construction project on a university campus, including work at an auditorium and a new building. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with regular opportunities for approximately 5–10 hours of overtime each week depending on project needs. You will work closely with experienced superintendents and field teams in an active construction environment that involves exposure to typical job site conditions such as noise, dust, and outdoor weather. The role requires adherence to all site safety protocols and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment while performing physically active tasks throughout the shift.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr.
