Job Title: CNC Machinist

Job Description

This role is ideal for a skilled machinist with at least two years of experience who can independently set up and operate a variety of CNC machine tools, including lathes and mills. You will fabricate precision parts, perform accurate measurements, interpret blueprints, and carry mechanical projects through from set-up to completion while maintaining high quality standards and a safe, organized work area.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate a variety of CNC machine tools, including lathes and mills, to produce precision components.

  • Operate computer numerical control machines to fabricate parts according to specifications and production requirements.

  • Load parts into CNC machines, initiate and monitor machine cycles, and adjust operations as needed to maintain quality and efficiency.

  • Detect and troubleshoot malfunctions in machine operations, including identifying worn or damaged cutting tools and taking corrective action.

  • Use precision measuring and inspection tools to monitor and verify dimensional accuracy of machined parts.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions to determine part dimensions, tolerances, and machining processes.

  • Perform standard shop computations related to dimensions, tolerances, feeds, and speeds to optimize machining operations.

  • Lay out workpieces, make set-ups, and secure fixtures and tooling to ensure accurate and safe machining.

  • Carry mechanical projects through assembly and testing, ensuring parts meet required specifications and function as intended.

  • Follow established process procedures and maintain accurate production and quality documentation.

  • Communicate effectively with co-workers and other departments regarding production runs, issues, and improvements.

  • Maintain a safe, organized, and clean work environment, following all safety and housekeeping guidelines.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a machinist or completion of a machinist apprenticeship of 2 or more years, or equivalent knowledge and experience.

  • Proficiency in setting up and operating CNC lathes and/or CNC mills.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.

  • Skill in using precision measuring and inspection instruments to verify dimensional accuracy.

  • Knowledge of standard shop computations related to dimensions, tolerances, feeds, and speeds.

  • Ability to lay out work, make set-ups, and run complete machining operations independently.

  • Experience operating computer numerical control machines to fabricate parts.

  • Troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve machine operation issues, including worn or damaged cutting tools.

  • Familiarity with CNC controllers such as Fanuc, Siemens, and Haas.

  • Ability to follow established process procedures and maintain accurate documentation.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.

  • Effective communication skills for coordinating with co-workers about production runs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with large and small horizontal machining centers is a plus.

  • Multi-axis CNC machining experience is highly desirable.

  • Experience with vertical, horizontal, and 5-axis mills, as well as 5-axis mill-turn equipment, is a strong advantage.

  • Hands-on experience with machine tools such as Haas, Makino, and Hermle is preferred.

  • Familiarity with drill presses and related shop equipment.

  • Blueprint reading and interpretation skills at an advanced level.

  • Mastercam or other CAM programming experience is a plus.

  • Ability to perform precision bench and floor work as needed.

  • Capability to carry mechanical projects through assembly and testing in a craftsman-like manner.

Work Environment

The work environment centers on a modern machine shop setting with a variety of CNC equipment, including vertical and horizontal mills, 5-axis mills, 5-axis mill-turn machines, and CNC lathes. You will work with tools and technologies such as Haas, Makino, and Hermle machines, as well as Fanuc, Siemens, and Haas controllers. The role involves standing at machines, handling workpieces, and using precision inspection tools throughout the shift. The shop emphasizes safety, organization, and cleanliness, with an expectation that work areas remain orderly and well-maintained. Standard industrial attire suitable for a machining environment is required, with appropriate safety gear used as needed.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Livermore, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.09 - $40.96/hr.
