Position Summary
The Accountant II performs a variety of professional accounting functions for a state government agency. The role involves maintaining financial records, preparing reports, conducting account reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with state financial regulations and policies.
This position requires on-site employment with no remote or hybrid options available.
Preferred Qualification
Experience working with AASIS (SAP) or other financial software.
Knowledge of processing and reviewing invoices and/or expense reimbursements.
Proficient in working with performance wire transfers, ACH payments, or issuing warrants.
Job Responsibilities and Expected Results
Prepare, analyze, and maintain financial records, including accounts, ledgers, and supporting documentation.
Review and process expense reimbursement forms and invoices.
Maintain accurate and organized financial records, ensuring timely documentation, reconciliation, and compliance with organization policies.
Reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring discrepancies are resolved in a timely manner.
Prepare and review journal entries to ensure proper recording of financial transactions.
Ensure all accounting practices comply with applicable state and federal regulations, as well as internal policies.
Prepare audit schedules and provide necessary documentation to internal and external auditors.
Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions, ensuring accuracy and timely payment processing.

Primary Responsibilities
Prepare, analyze, and maintain financial records, including accounts, ledgers, and supporting documentation. Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, ensuring compliance with applicable government regulations and policies. Reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring discrepancies are resolved in a timely manner. Prepare and review journal entries to ensure proper recording of financial transactions. Ensure all accounting practices comply with applicable state and federal regulations, as well as internal policies. Prepare audit schedules and provide necessary documentation to internal and external auditors. Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions, ensuring accuracy and timely payment processing.
Knowledge and Skills
In-depth understanding of accounting principles, practices, and regulations, especially in a governmental setting. Proficient in preparing and analyzing financial statements, budget reports, and financial summaries. Skilled in performing account reconciliations, identifying discrepancies, and resolving issues. Knowledge of governmental accounting standards and regulations, ensuring compliance in all financial processes. Advanced knowledge of accounting software (e.g., PeopleSoft, Oracle, QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables, formulas, and data analysis tools).
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university, plus 2 years of accounting experience.
