POSITION SUMMARY

The CDL-A Material Handler is a hybrid role responsible for material handling within the warehouse and safe operation of Class A commercial vehicles to transport paper, pulp, and finished goods between company facilities. This position supports mill operations by ensuring timely movement of materials, adherence to customer specifications, and compliance with all safety and transportation regulations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Warehouse & Material Handling

· Load, unload, transport, and stage paper rolls, pulp, and materials using lift trucks and specialized attachments (forks, roll clamps, bale clamps).

· Inspect trailers prior to loading and unloading to ensure safety and compliance.

+ + Follow trim sheets, shipping schedules, load plans, and customer specifications.

  • Stage rolls by customer and assign materials to designated storage areas.

  • Properly wrap, band, palletize, brace, block, and elevate rolls to ensure safe shipment.

  • Maintain warehouse cleanliness, organization, and safety standards.

  • Communicate with truck drivers and ensure adherence to site safety procedures.

Transportation (CDL-A)

  • Operate Class A commercial vehicles to transport trailers, paper, and pulp between company locations.

  • Deliver and retrieve trailers as scheduled to support mill and warehouse operations.

  • Load and unload materials at destination facilities when applicable.

  • Perform required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.

  • Comply with all DOT, FMCSA, company, and site-specific safety regulations.

  • Accurately complete logs, delivery paperwork, and required documentation.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-A).

  • Ability to safely operate industrial lift trucks and material-handling equipment.

  • Ability to meet DOT physical and drug/alcohol testing requirements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Prior experience in a manufacturing, warehouse, or paper mill environment.

· Fork Truck Certification.

· OSHA 10 certification.

· Experience handling large paper or pulp rolls.

· Inter-facility or short-haul driving experience.

COMPETENCIES

· Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, grasping, and climbing.

· Ability to safely operate lift trucks and commercial vehicles.

· Ability to wear required PPE (hearing protection, safety glasses, hard hat).

· Strong safety awareness and attention to detail.

· Effective communication and teamwork skills.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

· Work is performed in a manufacturing and warehouse environment.

· Regular exposure to heat, cold, noise, moving equipment, fumes, airborne particles, and chemicals.

· Repetitive motions and extended periods operating industrial equipment.

· Overtime may be required based on operational needs.
