Position Purpose
The Project Finance Business Partner acts as a trusted financial advisor and independent reviewer to Producing, Production, and Operations teams across service-based and production-led projects.
This role is responsible for validating the integrity of project financials, including forecasts, margins, and risks, ensuring leadership has a clear and unbiased view of performance across dynamic, client-driven environments.
Operating alongside project teams, but independent from delivery pressures, the role strengthens financial discipline, improves forecast reliability, and ensures consistent application of commercial and accounting principles across complex, evolving project scopes.
Essential Responsibilities / Accountabilities
Project Financial Assurance & Validation
Independently review and validate project financial forecasts, including contract value, revenue, cost-to-complete, and margin assumptions
Challenge underlying assumptions, ensuring alignment with contract terms, scope, delivery plans, and vendor commitments
Identify financial risks, gaps, and inconsistencies, escalating issues early and clearly
Ensure forecasts reflect the realities of dynamic, change-driven project environments
Business Partnering with Producing & Production Teams
Act as the primary finance partner to Producers and project teams from project award through closeout
Provide clear financial insight to support decision-making on scope, delivery, and commercial trade-offs
Support teams in understanding the financial implications of scope changes, client negotiations, and execution risks
Balance strong partnership with objective, independent financial challenge
Commercial, Contract & Accounting Oversight
Review contracts and change orders to ensure alignment between commercial terms and financial projections
Ensure consistent and compliant application of agent vs. principal accounting, particularly in vendor-driven and service-based delivery models
Validate inputs into revenue recognition, cost treatment, and forecast updates in collaboration with Project Accounting
Monitor actual performance vs forecast and investigate material variances
Governance, Controls & Transparency
Act as a second line of defense over project financial integrity, independent of delivery pressures
Drive consistency in forecasting methodologies, assumptions, and documentation standards
Improve visibility and transparency of project financial performance and risks
Support internal and external audit requirements related to project financials
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner closely with Project Accounting, FP&A, and Operations to ensure alignment between forecasts, actuals, and reporting
Serve as the key finance interface for Producing and Production teams
Translate finance policies into practical guidance for project teams, ensuring smooth and compliant execution
Contribute to continuous improvement of financial tools, templates, and forecasting processes.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field
8+ years’ experience in project-based, production, agency, or complex service environments
Experience in project finance, commercial finance, project accounting, or project controls
Proven experience conducting site visits and project valuations (e.g., percent complete, earned value, cost-to-complete).
Strong understanding of:
Contract structures and commercial terms
Cost forecasting, margin management, and financial risk
Experience working in dynamic, change-driven project environments
Knowledge of revenue recognition and agent vs. principal considerations
Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP / project costing systems
Proven ability to work independently and confidently challenge financial assumptions
