Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and hands-on Manufacturing Engineering Intern to support operations at our high-speed connector stamping facility. This internship provides real-world exposure to manufacturing processes, tooling, automation, and continuous improvement in a production environment that supplies critical components for metal-connected wood trusses. The ideal candidate is eager to apply engineering fundamentals, learn on the floor, and contribute to improving safety, quality, throughput, and cost.
Core Responsibilities
Support manufacturing engineers in daily production activities within a high-speed stamping environment
Assist with process optimization initiatives focused on safety, quality, efficiency, scrap reduction, and uptime
Participate in time studies, line balancing, and capacity analysis for stamping and secondary operations
Assist with tooling, die, and press-related projects, including setup improvements and documentation
Support troubleshooting of manufacturing issues related to equipment, material flow, product quality, and basic automation systems
Help develop and update standard work, work instructions, and process documentation
Participate in continuous improvement activities such as 5S, kaizen events, and root cause analysis
Collaborate with production, maintenance, quality, and engineering teams to support cross-functional initiatives
Complete a site-specific engineering project and formally present results and recommendations to Division leadership
Expected Learnings
Fundamentals of high-speed metal stamping and connector plate manufacturing
Exposure to progressive dies, press operations, electrical systems, controls, PLC-driven equipment, Fanuc robotics and material handling systems
Understanding of manufacturing workflows, constraints, and real-world production challenges
Application of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles in a plant environment
Experience executing an engineering project from problem definition through analysis, implementation, and leadership presentation

Qualifications
Rising Junior or Senior pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution
Strong interest in manufacturing, automation, and industrial processes
Basic understanding of engineering principles related to mechanics, materials, electrical systems, or manufacturing processes
Exposure to controls, PLCs, sensors, or industrial automation is a plus
Proficiency with Software such as AutoCAD and Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and PowerBI)
Ability to learn quickly, work independently with guidance, and manage multiple tasks
Willingness to spend time on the manufacturing floor in an industrial environment
Work Environment & Physical Demands
Manufacturing plant environment with exposure to production equipment, noise, and moving machinery
Combination of office-based work and time spent on the shop floor
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and observe processes for extended periods as required

Compensation Information:
Rising Junior (May 2028 graduation date): $25.50
Rising Senior (May 2027 graduation date): $27.25
