SUMMARY:
Work under the supervision of Charge Nurse to dispense medication in a safe and timely manner to Bethany Home residents. Practice the Five Rights of Medication Administration: 1.) Right resident, 2.) Right medication, 3.) Right time, 4.) Right route, 5.) Right dose. Observe and report any change in residents condition to Charge Nurse. Take vital signs as ordered. Assist CNAs as workload allows. Maintain a clean and well-stocked medication cart. Document medication administration according to Bethany Home policy. Understand and maintain confidentiality.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Have knowledge of, and pass medications as ordered by physician.
- Administer ordered snacks.
- Take vital signs as ordered.
- Observe for possible need for PRN medication and report observations to Charge Nurse. Administer PRN medications as ordered by Charge Nurse.
- Understand possible side effects and interactions of medications.
- Maintain a clean and well-stocked medication cart.
- Understand and maintain confidentiality.
- Understand Bethany Homes policies on abuse prevention, safety, fire safety, severe weather safety.
- Implement infection control practices according to Bethany Home policy.
- Understand and document according to Bethany Home policy.
- Completes all assigned in-service training.
- Assures medication certification is current at all times.
- Accountable for the all skills on skills checklist.
- All other assigned duties.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Strength:Medium exerting 20- 50 pounds of force occasionally, or 10-25 pounds of force frequently, or negligible-10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Standing or Walking:Constantly (activity exists up to 2/3 or more of the time)

Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
State of Kansas Nurses Aide Certification and Medication Aide Certification.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge and practice of the five rights of medication administration. Knowledge of possible side effects and interactions of medication. Ability to organize and prioritize tasks. Document according to Bethany Home policy. Observe any changes in resident condition and possible need for PRN medications, report those changes or needs to Charge Nurse. Administer PRN medications as ordered by the Charge Nurse. Ability to work well with people, including staff, residents, families and visitors. Knowledge and practice of Bethany Home safety procedures, and infection control practices. Understanding of Bethany Home policies on abuse prevention, residents rights and confidentiality. Ability to follow and carry out requests of Charge Nurse.
