This is a unique opportunity to build and lead a specialized team responsible for the end-to-end security of Ford's off-board charging infrastructure. You will define the security architecture and strategy for everything from the charger itself to the cloud services that support it, including emerging technologies like Vehicle-to-Grid and smart charging. Reporting to the Director of Off-Board Architecture & Strategy, you will be a key leader in shaping the future of secure electric mobility.
What you'll be able to do:
Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing, specialized team of cybersecurity architects and engineers focused on the EV charging and energy ecosystem.
Define the cybersecurity roadmap for Ford’s charging ecosystem and energy infrastructure, aligning technical strategy, business priorities, and regulatory needs across hardware, software, and cloud domains.
Own and develop the end-to-end security architecture for Ford’s off-board charging infrastructure, including public charging networks, home and depot charging solutions, and grid integrated systems.
Drive threat modeling and risk management activities, guiding your team in the execution of Threat Analysis and Risk Assessments across the charging ecosystem to identify vulnerabilities and define robust mitigation strategies
Oversee the development and maintenance of cybersecurity requirements, specifications, and design validation methods for charging hardware, software, and communication protocols (e.g., ISO 15118, OCPP).
Serve as the primary cybersecurity interface for product development, engineering, and cloud teams working on charging solutions, ensuring security is embedded from concept to deployment.
Drive cross-functional alignment on cybersecurity priorities, trade-offs, milestones, and issue resolution across product development, platform, software, and operations teams.
Partner with external stakeholders, engaging with charging hardware suppliers, industry consortiums, and regulatory bodies to ensure alignment on security best practices and compliance.
Lead continuous improvement of cybersecurity processes, tools, and methods to improve efficiency, consistency, and quality across the team’s work products
Work closely with multiple teams inside Vehicle and Connected Cybersecurity, including the Compliance team to meet global regulations and the Monitoring (VSOC/ASOC) team to ensure the charging network is actively monitored for threats.
You'll have
Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field OR a combination of education and experience.
5+ years of experience in cybersecurity, with a focus on areas such as automotive, IoT, embedded systems, application security, or industrial control systems.
3+ years of formal or informal leadership experience, including mentoring, guiding technical teams, and managing projects.
Ability to develop and maintain engineering documentation including requirements, specifications, test plans, etc.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Deep understanding of network security, communication protocols (TCP/IP, TLS), and cryptographic principles (PKI, encryption, digital signatures).
Experience with security risk assessment methodologies like Threat Modeling or TARA.
Even better, you may have
Master's degree in a relevant technical or cybersecurity field.
Direct experience with EV charging standards and protocols such as ISO 15118, OCPP, and Plug & Charge.
Experience securing cloud-connected infrastructure and REST APIs.
Knowledge of hardware security features like Hardware Security Modules (HSMs) or Trusted Platform Modules (TPMs).
Familiarity with automotive cybersecurity standards (e.g., ISO/SAE 21434).
Proven track record of building and leading high-performing technical security teams in a large, global organization.
Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate complex security risks to both technical and non-technical executive stakeholders.
