Actalent Technicians (Outdoor Laborers) in Lenoir, North Carolina
Utility Field Technician SUE Technician (Training Provided)
Based in Lenoir, NC | Mostly Field-Based | Regional Travel
Are you someone who enjoys working outdoors, using your hands, and being part of real infrastructure projects? Have you worked in construction, utilities, grading, surveying, directional drilling, or general labor and want a long‑term career path with specialized skills?
We’re hiring Utility Field Technicians who want to grow into Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Technicians. This role is built for hard‑working, safety‑minded people who want to move beyond general labor and learn a high‑value technical trade that supports roads, buildings, and major infrastructure projects.
You don’t need formal SUE experience to start. If you’re dependable, willing to learn, and comfortable working outdoors, we’ll train you.
What Is SUE?
SUE (Subsurface Utility Engineering) is how engineers and contractors find, map, and verify underground utilities before construction begins—preventing dangerous hits, shutdowns, and costly mistakes. You’ll be part of the team that makes job sites safer and projects successful.
What You’ll Do (Day to Day)
You’ll work with a small field crew on active job sites across North Carolina and the Southeast.
Learn to locate underground utilities (electric, gas, water, fiber, sewer) using industry tools like electromagnetic locators and ground penetrating radar (GPR)
Mark and document underground utilities so engineers can design safely and accurately
Assist with vacuum excavation (soft digging) to visually confirm utility locations
Collect field data using tablets or iPads (we train you)
Read basic plans, drawings, and utility records (we’ll help you learn this)
Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean, safe worksite
Follow all safety rules and jobsite protocols
Work outdoors in different weather conditions
Travel to nearby projects during the week (overnight travel may be required)
As you gain experience, you’ll move into more advanced responsibilities and technical work.
