Position Overview
As a Mechanical Design Intern , you will apply engineering drafting principles and procedures in performing basic engineering drafting work. Develop drawings and models with information, close guidance, and direction provided by engineers and designers. This position coordinates with other design team members to review and exchange project information necessary for design and development. Performs specific design functions for the project as assigned.

Location
This role is in Oak Ridge, TN or Lenexa, KS.
Responsibilities
Develop 3D models using drawings, sketches, and design skills; create and maintain plans, diagrams, detail drawings, and check packages with applicable information
Navigate and check 3D models for interferences; resolve comments on checked drawings by understanding and implementing feedback
Complete as-built drawings using RFIs, ECNs, and red-marked construction drawings to create “Conformed to Construction Records” when required
Gather necessary information to develop accurate drawings; learn and apply Kiewit design and quality standards as well as applicable codes
Perform assignments with attention to detail, working efficiently to maximize productivity and manage rework to meet project deadlines
Report progress updates and issues to Lead Designer; conduct personal quality checks within a team to ensure accuracy and consistency
Check design for safety, operability, maintenance requirements, and consistency before submission
Demonstrate a basic understanding of piping layouts and field drawings; participate in weekly project meetings and other required sessions
Proactively seek new information and skills; request and apply constructive feedback for continuous improvement
Qualifications
Currently enrolled in an Associate or Bachelor’s program in Computer Aided Drafting and Design or a related field
Proficient in computer-aided drafting software such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, Navisworks, or SmartPlant; working knowledge of modern operating systems
Skilled in written and verbal communication, including professional email and electronic meeting coordination
Familiar with spreadsheets and databases for project documentation and collaboration
Adapts well to changing workloads; completes assignments with limited supervision and detailed guidance for new tasks
Works collaboratively within teams, receives and incorporates instruction, and contributes to collective objectives
Supports project teams, manages multiple responsibilities, and consistently meets deadlines
Serves as a resource for internal and external stakeholders, following up on commitments and presenting ideas clearly
Possesses entry-level to intermediate skills in AutoCAD
Must be a US citizen with documentation for badge access
Pass a security questionnaire and background check appropriate to position duties
