Classroom Substitute Duties and Responsibilities:Must comply with all BGP Policies & Procedures, Head Start Performance Standards, Kentucky Childcare Regulations, Health, Fire, Safety, and other applicable local, state, and federal regulations.Ability to carry out job responsibilities independently.•Responsible to maintain documentation and records for Education, Nutrition, and Attendance•Responsible for becoming familiar with classroom routines and activities of each classroom and to follow the guidance of staff and assist staff in following the lesson plan and the daily schedule while individualizing them to meet children’s needs.•Responsible to model, support, and monitor good hygiene, health, and safety practices.•Responsible for the job description of the position when assigned to cover a position during a long- term absence (more than 10 workdays)Supervision and management of classroom staff and volunteers•Responsible for partnering with Head Start Teacher and TA to supervise the Substitutes and Volunteers assigned to the classroom.•Responsible to partner with Head Start Teacher and TA to train new Substitutes and Volunteers placed in classroom.•Responsible for assisting families in opportunities to volunteer in the classroom and center.Classroom management supervision, and teaching practices•Responsible for expanding the child’s learning and understanding and to encourage their participation.•Responsible to assist in providing a classroom atmosphere that is warm, secure, and trust building, encourages parents and children to express their feelings and is comfortable, promotes positive guidance for preschoolers, modeling and encouraging “good manners” and respect for adults and others, is positive, with an enthusiastic attitude towards children/families, and models respect and support of children/family’s culture.•Responsible for working with teacher and TA to ensure all required postings are displayed prominently in the classroom including but not limited to lesson plans, daily schedule, children’s artwork/work, Kentucky Childcare Licensing required postings, etc.•Responsible for understanding and implementing teacher-child interactions and what Teacher/TA does with available materials, how the Teacher/TA promotes higher-order thinking skills and cognition as well as the Teacher/TA’s focus on understanding rather than rote instruction (implementation of CLASS strategies) in the absence of classroom staff.•Utilizes resources provided to assist teacher and TA in facilitating the completion of planned activities, lesson plans, screenings, and assessments.•Will implement the Individual Education Plan (IEP) and Response to Intervention (RT) for children identified with special needs or suspected of having a disability by using an inclusive approach as instructed by the Teacher and TA.•Responsible for following the curriculum to fidelity using The Fidelity Tool for Teachers/Administrators.•Responsible for assisting the teacher and TA in providing lesson plans that meets program requirements, are individualized to meet the needs of each child, supports cultural diversity, supports, and addresses language, literacy, mathematics, science, creative arts, logic & reasoning, social studies, social and emotional development, approaches to learning, physical health, and English language development in preparation of school readiness.Parent Involvement and Inclusion•Will acknowledge parents as their child’s first and primary teacher and reinforces this with practical suggestions for developing this belief, working with the teacher to plan the home visit experiences for the family and demonstrating/instructing the parent in lesson plan activities, observing the parent - child interaction and providing feedback.•Responsible for assisting staff to send materials, notes, etc. home to parents at the end of the day.•Responsible to refer parents to appropriate staff for parental questions or concerns.•Must be able to effectively communicate with parents and staff.•Will assist in maintaining an “open door” policy to the classroom for parents to visit / volunteer and responsible to orient parents to the environment and activities.•Responsible for maintaining and documenting communication with parents per written information, telephone contact, and home visits.Bus Monitor Duties and ResponsibilitiesMust comply with all BGP Policies & Procedures, Head Start Performance Standards, Kentucky Childcare Regulations, Health, Fire, Safety, and other applicable local, state, and federal regulations.•Responsible to assist the Bus Driver to present a pleasant, safe environment conducive to positive learning experiences to ensure the bus is an extension of the classroom. •Will assist the bus driver in maintaining discipline on the school bus and report to the driver any behavior concerns. •Will monitor loading and unloading passengers and assist them while the bus is in operation. •Responsible for assisting buckle and unbuckle seat restraints for children and other individuals as needed. •Responsible for documentation of Attendance log and no child left behind paperwork that is in the Monitor’s clipboard binder. •Responsible to assist the Bus Driver in all situations including but not limited to passenger illness, emergency drills, accidents/incidents, etc.
