Mars Head of Operations in Leicestershire, United Kingdom
Mars Petcare is seeking a strategic and purpose-driven Head of Operations to lead all operational functions at the world-renowned Waltham Petcare Science Institute.
As a key member of the Waltham Leadership Team, you will contribute to the shape and delivery of the Waltham’s long-term strategy, ensuring world-class research delivery, exceptional animal welfare standards, and future-ready operational capability.
The role holds end-to-end accountability for site operations, research deployment, facilities strategy, and pet population management. Leading 8 direct reports and an extended team of 200 associates and contractors, you will oversee a £15m annual operating budget and contribute to a 10-year site masterplan of significant investment.
What will be your key responsibilities?
Shaping and executing Waltham’s operational and site strategy
Leading delivery of the research programme with a focus on quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement
Developing and implementing a long-term site masterplan
Ensuring best-in-class Health, Safety, Environmental and Welfare standards
Overseeing animal sourcing, husbandry, behaviour, and homing
Leading global Pet Centre capability and best practice across Mars
Building and developing a high-performing leadership team
What are we looking for?
Degree (essential) or PhD (desirable) in a scientific or veterinary discipline
R&D or Supply background within a commercial environment
Significant senior leadership experience with a track record of building high-performing teams
Experience leading complex, multifunctional operations and strategic investment programmes
Strong stakeholder leadership with the credibility to represent Waltham globally
Deep commitment to animal welfare and ethical research standards
