Dartmouth Health Dental Assistant - Per Diem in Lebanon, New Hampshire
Alice Peck Day Upper Valley Smiles Program started in 2003, is a school-based dental program which typically runs from September through June. This innovative program continues to meet a large unmet need in the Upper Valley for free oral healthcare and is an example of excellent collaboration between hospital and schools.
POSITION STANDARDS
*
Minimum 2 years' experience as a dental assistant, preferably in a public oral health setting.
Superior interpersonal communication skills, with documented ability to interact positively with school personnel, students and
parents.
Able to work as a team player and take direction from dental hygienist
Ability to document screening and treatment via paper-based screening and treatment forms as well as manage electronic databases
Computer experience, including typing
Valid Driver's license

Position Objective

The Dental Assistant works with the APD Dental Hygienist in providing the school-based dental program services

Performance Expectation
*
Assist the program Dental Hygienist in Upper Valley schools to provide safe and efficient dental screenings and treatments: toothbrush cleaning, applying glass ionomer dental sealants, Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF), and fluoride varnish to children’s teeth
Properly maintain portable dental equipment and advise dental hygienist when additional maintenance or repairs are needed
Assist the program dental hygienist with dental screening and treatment by recording information using the electronic health records (ex. Dentrix) and paper-based forms
Set-up, break–down, and maintenance of the portable dental equipment and pack dental supplies for safe transport
Maintain dental supply inventory, per school, and document and advise the dental hygienist when additional supplies are needed
Support care coordination spread sheets/ tracking/ patient forms per school with the Dental Hygienist for each school nurse for cases identified as urgent or needing care in timely manor
Adhere to program protocols, clinical procedures, sterilization, and current Infection Control and OSHA standards, including but limited to:
Review returned permission forms for complete accuracy: first name, last name, medical history and allergy questions, one year consent, signatures and dates. All incomplete informed consents are managed by the program dental assistant and dental hygienist
Support school classroom oral health education
