LSI Staffing Accountant in Lawrence, Kansas

THE ROLE
The Accountant is responsible to maintain daily accounting operations as well as various filings and compliance requirements. The position works closely with the Controller.
Complete month end closing, including preparing and reviewing monthly journal entries, general ledger account reconciliations, and reporting.
Prepare monthly bank reconciliations.
Manage fixed assets including additions, disposals, and reconciliations.
Prepare and submit monthly sales tax returns and other federal/state tax filings.
Assist with customer tax exemption documentation and verify correct tax treatment of customer orders.
Respond to emails and questions regarding sales and use tax, both internal and external
Lead preparation of annual 1099s.
Compile information for external accountants for preparation of annual tax returns.
Support accounting staff with processing complex receivables and payables transactions.
Prepare reports for eCommerce customers to reconcile website activity monthly.
Respond professionally and timely to internal or external inquiries.
Maintain files and documentation thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with company policy and accepted accounting practices.
Perform additional duties as requested by Management.
THE ESSENTIALS
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
Three (3) years accounting experience. Manufacturing experience a plus.
Highly proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word.
Knowledge of accounting principles and practices and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
Strong problem-solving skills, basic accounting principles knowledge, documentation skills, research and resolution skills, and data analysis.
Knowledge of sales and use tax laws and procedures.
Ability to effectively communicate, present information and respond to questions, both verbal and written.
Ability to analyze data or information by identifying the underlying principles, reasons, or facts of information and use logic to address work-related issues and problems.
Skilled at organizing, planning and setting priorities with minimal supervision.
Capable to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment with an emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
Regular and reliable attendance combined with being dependable and prompt.
