Position Summary Information
General Summary
The GIS student internwill be exposed to various applications of GIS technology in a water utility. Particular attention will be paid to data maintenance procedures to support network data depicting our water distribution and sewer collection systems.
Essential Functions
Assist GIS Technician by editing and digitizing enterprise GIS data using ARCGIS desktop products.
Perform research and interpret details on engineering documents and translate that data into GIS data sets.
Generate Maps by working collaboratively with WSSC staff.
Performs other related duties as required.
Other Functions
Attend meetings with clients to discuss GIS needs.
Work Environment And Physical Demands
Work in performed in normal office setting.
Most of the work will involve use of a desktop computer.
Field visits with WSSC staff to verify assets in the filed might be occasionally necessary.
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Word and Excel)
Knowledge of ARCGIS Desktop products, especially ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap and ArcCatalog;
Ability to learn some AutoCAD
Ability to research engineering plans and as-built drawing to uncover information about water and sewer assets.
Good verbal and written communication.
Minimum Education, Experience Requirements
Completed some college level classes in engineering, geography, urban planning, environmental studies or architecture.
