ABOUT THE POSITION
The Clark County Department of Real Property Management is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Playground Maintenance Technician position. This position is responsible for inspecting park and playground equipment to ensure safety and compliance standards are met, performing installation and maintenance of playground structures, and coordinating playground repair activities. The successful candidate will also review and interpret construction drawings related to playground construction, renovation, and improvement projects. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with maintenance crews, contractors, and supervisory staff to support safe and functional park facilities.

This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience: Equivalent to graduation from high school AND four (4) years of full-time experience in performing installation, maintenance or repair work in a park setting. Experience to include working with playground equipment, fitness equipment, aquatic splash pads, and fall protection surfaces.
All qualifying education and each experience must be clearly documented in the “Education” and “Work Experience” sections of the application. Working Conditions: Work extended shifts or be called back in emergency situations. Work out of doors in all weather conditions.
Licensing and Certification: Must possess valid Class C Nevada Driver's license at time of appointment. Must possess at time of application and maintain throughout the term of employment, a Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) certification from the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA).
Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.
Citizenship: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Please note, Clark County does not provide H1B visa sponsorships or transfers for any employment positions.
Medical Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
Inspect all playgrounds for soundness and identification possible risks of hazards.
Repairs and replaces playground equipment and components.
May install new playground pieces and construct retaining walls and drains following construction plans.
Reads and interprets architectural, mechanical, and structural drawings and site plans related to park playgrounds and fall surfaces.
Assists Design and Construction Division in design review and inspection of related park projects.
Review new playground designs and construction documents for compliance with department specifications and guidelines, along with state and local codes.
Participates in the administration of Park Operations playground contracts performed by outside contractors.
Assists in the response and resolution to internally and externally generated work orders, complaints, and inquiries.
Maintains complete records of playground and fall surface inspections and status.
Makes entries into, and maintains compliance with, departmental service request and work order system.
Coordinates as required with other Parks and County staff to effectively organize scheduled work and activities.
May lead the work activities of others.
May assist in the support of the department’s capital and asset management program.
Maintains daily work reports.
Repairs/replaces miscellaneous park furnishings (picnic tables, grills, etc.).
Determines materials needed for repairs and places orders.
Provides emergency assistance to citizens or other County departments as needed.
Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work schedule is essential.
Reads and understands playground and splash pad construction blueprints, plans, specifications, and codes.
May assist in administering contracts for professional services relating to playground park maintenance.
Uses a variety of hand and power tools while exercising safety.
May provide assistance in design and layout of projects.
May make recommendations for capital funding requests.
Installs and repairs or coordinates vendor repairs to a variety of park equipment, including tables, playground, sports, and fitness equipment, safety surfaces, shade structures, splash pads, etc.
Regularly inspects the condition of park playground, splash pad, and fitness equipment for wear and tear or damage and coordinates repairs by e-mail, service request or work order.
May direct the work of less skilled assistants on a specific team assignment or project basis; ensures that proper safety precautions are followed.
Monitors and generates work orders for damaged playground, splash pad and fitness equipment.
Requests quotes and orders from manufacturers for replacement playground, splash pad and fitness equipment.

Provides estimates to Supervisor regarding time and material needed for specific assignments.
Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
Safely and skillfully inspecting and repairing parks playground equipment and safety surfaces.
Coordinating contracted playground repair and inspection services
Maintains records of work performed and materials used.
Drives County or local agency vehicles to work sites and transports materials and assistants as required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Mobility to work in an outdoor setting with exposure to extreme weather conditions; operating typical trade equipment, hand and power tools; capable of driving a motor vehicle to various work sites; stamina to stand, walk and climb and to work in confined or awkward spaces for an extended period of time; strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds with proper equipment; vision to read printed materials; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over a radio or telephone.
