JOB DESCRIPTION
Basic Purpose
This position is responsible for the planning, execution and finalization of new generation and energy storage projects in accordance with performance, budget and schedule requirements. Forms and leads high-level cross functional teams to deliver generation and energy storage projects. This includes utilization of resources and coordinating the efforts of team members and third-party contracts or consultants to deliver projects according to plan. This position will also define project objectives and oversee quality control throughout its life cycle.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provides leadership, strategic direction and management to deliver generation and storage projects with annual total spend regularly exceeding $500 million. Directs and manages a team of engineers, project managers, and outside organizations to efficiently deliver projects. Identifies and resolves issues and conflicts within the project team. Supervises, mentors and trains team members to ensure department growth, teamwork and a culture of continuous improvement
Manages changes in project scope, identifies potential crises, and devises contingency plans. Manages project development and contract completion through commissioning. Manages scope and cost schedule for new plants including scope definition prior contract execution. Sets and continually manages project expectations with team members and other stakeholders including definition of, and adherence to, engineering, performance and construction standards
Selects vendors and negotiates contracts. Develops and enforces a rigorous, high quality contract management program, including contractor selection for all related project agreements. Builds, develops, and grows any business relationships vital to the success of the project
Defines project scopes, goals and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders. Integrates project costs and schedules with broader organizational objectives
Ensures efficient utilization of new resources: Supports project evaluation and selection efforts. Interfaces with Resource Optimization and Resource Planning to ensure that new resource technologies and capabilities are leveraged. Supports optimal utilization of new resources for economic dispatch and strategic support of Integrated Resource Planning to achieve broad renewable policy goals
Supports project regulatory approval efforts. Testifies as needed before regulatory bodies and participates in regulatory activities
Monitors and enforces all compliance requirements for area of responsibility.
Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company.
Performs related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential Education, Skills, and Environment
Education and Work Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related specialty from an accredited school and 8 years of related experience.
Candidates that do not possess a bachelor’s degree must have a minimum of 12 years of related work experience.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrated knowledge of:
Utility business and industry practices including technical knowledge of renewable and storage facilities
Power plant construction and operations
Tracking record of performance (particularly with newer technologies).
Demonstrated skills such as:
Analytical (financial), interpersonal and communication (such as technical and non-technical staff, management and leadership)
Project management, developing effective internal and external relationships
Negotiation, critical thinking, project management, decision-making, presentation, and human relations
Credibility with external audiences (regulators, construction and development firms, etc)
Operating with and without direct resources (i.e., thru broad interfaces within and outside the organization).
Equipment and Applications
PCs, word processing, spreadsheet and database software.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
General office environment. No special physical demands required.
