Colliers Engineering & Design Highway Project Engineer in Lansing, Michigan
Overview
Colliers Engineering & Design is currently seeking a Project Engineer to join our Highways & Traffic Engineering team at our Lansing and Grand Rapids, MI offices! The primary focus will be supporting transportation infrastructure projects across Michigan, while also providing support to our offices in Ohio.
Our infrastructure design professionals deliver projects of varying size and complexity, offering services that span conceptual planning, feasibility studies, and the preparation of design and contract documents for the construction of improvements to state and interstate highways, as well as local and county roadway networks. We also develop alternative improvement strategies that balance project costs with key considerations such as environmental impacts, utility coordination, and right-of-way constraints.
Responsibilities
Apply broad knowledge of engineering principles and practices in highway/roadway design.
Independently evaluate, select, and adapt standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
Assist project managers and technical leads in developing highway and traffic design plans that may include grading, signs, pavement markings, traffic signals, roadside safety devices, ITS, drainage, pavement, and utilities.
Demonstrate a strong understanding of codes, provisions, and standards including the MUTCD and AASHTO guidelines.
Prepare complete project documents independently.
Analyze and interpret data, formulate and solve problems.
Assist with the preparation of scopes of work, budgets, and schedule meetings.
Coordinate assigned work with other internal disciplines.
Serve as a mentor and technical advisor to junior engineers.
Organize and perform field investigations/site visits as needed.
Perform engineering calculations and create cost estimates.
Establish and maintain positive relationships with co-workers, supervisors, clients, and colleagues.
Willingness to adapt and grow while continually learning and expanding career skills.
Meet schedule, budget, and quality goals set by project managers.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering required.
4+ years of highway/roadway design experience required.
Previous MDOT project experience is a plus.
Engineer in Training (EIT) certification required; PE license preferred.
MicroStation, Geopak/InRoads and OpenRoads experience required; AutoCAD Civil 3D is a plus.
Ability to read, write, and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
