Humana’s MarketPoint organization is seeking a strategic, collaborative, and results-driven Associate Director, Learning Design to lead the design and development of sales agent training programs in a high-performance, sales-driven organization. This role will oversee a team of Learning & Development Managers and Design Professionals responsible for designing and delivering engaging, scalable training for new sales agents, sales systems, Medicare Advantage (MA) plans, selling seasons, and customer-centric selling and service practices.
As the Associate Director, you will partner closely with sales channel leaders, operations, compliance, product, and other cross-functional stakeholders to identify learning needs, translate business requirements into effective learning solutions, and ensure sales agents are equipped to perform confidently, compliantly, and consistently across the customer journey.
Key Role Functions
Learning Strategy & Team Leadership
Lead, coach, and develop a team of leads, instructional designers, learning consultants, and facilitation partners focused on sales agent training
Define and execute a comprehensive learning design strategy for agent onboarding, systems enablement, MA plan training, and ongoing skill development aligned to sales performance and business priorities
Establish clear learning standards, design frameworks, and quality benchmarks to ensure consistency, scalability, and learner impact across all agent training programs
Set success metrics and continuously evaluate training effectiveness, learner readiness, and business outcomes (e.g., time-to-proficiency, quality, compliance, sales performance)
Serve as the instructional design authority for the team, setting clear expectations for analysis, design, development, and evaluation quality
Program Design & Development
Own the end-to-end design and delivery of new sales agent onboarding programs, ensuring agents are sales-ready, system-ready, and knowledge-ready
Lead the development of systems training to support CRM, enrollment tools, call center technologies, and evolving sales platforms
Oversee MA plan and product training, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and timely updates in partnership with product, regulatory, and compliance teams
Design customer-focused training that reinforces consultative selling, needs-based conversations, customer experience, and compliance expectations
Apply modern adult learning principles and blended learning approaches (virtual, instructor-led, self-paced, simulations, performance support)
Curate, create, or source engaging learning content tailored to a fast-paced, performance-oriented sales environment
Instructional Design Expertise & Content Development
Lead and model best-in-class instructional design practices, including analysis, content organization, solution design, and learning architecture
Personally contribute to or oversee the creation of:
Storyboards and scripts
Performance support tools
Mobile learning and microlearning assets
Facilitator and participant guides
Job aids and learner manuals
Analyze learning needs and performance gaps, partnering closely with subject matter experts to shape course content and learning approaches
Write clear, measurable learning objectives aligned to role expectations, compliance requirements, and business outcomes
Design and coordinate performance assessments, proficiency checks, and practical application exercises to measure learning effectiveness
Ensure all course materials remain current, accurate, compliant, and relevant to changing systems, products, regulations, and sales strategies
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
Act as a strategic learning partner to sales leaders and business stakeholders, translating operational and performance needs into targeted learning solutions
Collaborate closely with Sales Operations, Product, Compliance, Marketing, HR, and Technology teams to ensure learning content is aligned, accurate, and launch-ready
Manage stakeholder expectations, timelines, and priorities while driving adoption and engagement with agent training programs
Ensure training solutions support regulatory requirements, readiness for AEP and other critical business cycles, and ongoing operational changes
Program Management & Continuous Improvement
Apply strong project and program management practices to deliver learning initiatives on time, on budget, and with high quality
Use data, feedback, and performance insights to continuously improve content, learning modalities, and learner experience
Leverage learning technologies (LMS, content authoring tools, analytics platforms) to scale, track, and optimize agent learning
Champion a culture of continuous improvement and learning innovation within the sales organization

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree
8+ years of progressive experience in learning design, facilitation, or sales enablement, preferably in a sales, customer service, call center, and/or regulated environment
5+ years of demonstrated experience leading and developing learning or instructional design teams
Experience with adult learning theory, instructional design methodologies, and blended learning delivery
Strong understanding of sales operations, sales and call center environments, and performance drivers for frontline sales agents
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Learning & Development, Organizational Development, Education, Business, or a related field highly preferred
Background in developing training for sales agents, customer-facing roles strongly preferred
Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) by the Association for Talent Development (ATD)
Experience supporting Medicare Advantage or other highly regulated product training environments
Passion for designing practical, learner-centered training that drives readiness and performance
Commitment to inclusive, accessible, and learner-focused training practices

Pay Range
The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.
$115,200 - $158,400 per year
This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
