Smurfit Westrock 2nd Shift Maintenance Tech in Lansing, Michigan

The Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to perform general mechanical, electrical, and electronic maintenance of facility systems and manufacturing equipment. This role is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining equipment to minimize downtime and support safe, efficient operations. The Maintenance Technician plays a key role in keeping production running reliably while adhering to safety, quality, and regulatory standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical and electronic maintenance on manufacturing equipment and facility systems up to 480 volts.

  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical components including relays, sensors, switches, motors, and machine controls.

  • Diagnose and repair motors, pumps, compressors, and other plant systems.

  • Perform mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic maintenance and repairs.

  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues and complete timely, effective repairs.

  • Perform basic welding, brazing, and cutting to fabricate items such as guardrails, brackets, and hangers.

  • Use precision measuring tools including rulers, calipers, and micrometers accurately.

  • Prepare and operate machine tools (lathes, grinders, drill presses, mills) to repair or fabricate parts and fixtures.

  • Bend conduit and pull wire as required for electrical installations and repairs.

  • Safely operate scissor lifts and forklifts.

  • Maintain accurate and complete maintenance records.

  • Support recycling programs for materials such as light bulbs, batteries, and metals.

  • Follow all safety policies and work efficiently in accordance with company procedures.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


What You Need to Succeed

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Training or certification in electrical technology or machine control systems.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in electrical machine control repair or design, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • State of Michigan electrical license preferred.

  • Ability to read and use rulers, calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring tools.

  • Working knowledge of sensors, AC/DC motors, PLCs, hand tools, and small power tools.

  • Training in basic electrical and mechanical safety.

  • Basic computer skills for recordkeeping and documentation.

  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, ladder diagrams, prints, and technical drawings.

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply the National Electrical Code (NEC).

  • Ability to pass color vision and color\u2011hue tests.

  • Reliable attendance and willingness to work overtime as needed.

  • Ability to perform all essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
