Pipefitter / Mechanical Technician

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Pipefitter / Mechanical Technician to join a highly skilled team performing specialized mechanical and pipefitting work on live infrastructure . This role is ideal for a hands-on professional who enjoys challenging field work, problem-solving in real time, and working on critical systems such as hospitals and municipal water networks .
You’ll work with advanced techniques—like line freezing, hot tapping, and valve insertions —that keep essential services running while repairs and modifications are safely completed. What You’ll Be Doing
Perform specialized pipefitting and mechanical services including:
Nitrogen line freezing
Hot tapping and line stopping
Valve insertions and hydrant servicing
HDPE pipe squeezes
Flange installation and bolting to specified torque values
Work safely on live systems in hospitals, municipal infrastructure, and city water networks with minimal service disruption.
Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical documentation to accurately plan and carry out work.
Install, repair, and maintain piping systems using hand tools, power tools, and mechanical equipment.
Diagnose and troubleshoot piping and mechanical issues in the field and implement effective solutions.
Work primarily with domestic and city water systems , adapting to other materials and applications as required.
Use service software (e.g., ServiceTitan ) to receive work orders, document completed work, and communicate job status.
Travel from the shop to daily job sites, including out-of-town and remote locations , with paid travel time.
Collaborate with teammates and site personnel to ensure safe, efficient job completion.
Participate in overtime, weekend work, and travel-based assignments when required.
Support shop operations during slower field periods by rebuilding, maintaining, and servicing equipment.
Follow all safety procedures and use proper PPE, including work in confined spaces or at height where applicable.
Communicate clearly with supervisors, coworkers, and clients about job progress and site conditions.
What You Bring
Required Qualifications
5+ years of experience in plumbing, pipefitting, or mechanical field service.
Strong mechanical aptitude; heavy-duty mechanical experience is an asset.
Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and pipefitting equipment.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
Experience installing, repairing, and maintaining piping systems.
Basic electrical and construction knowledge to support field service work.
Physically capable of lifting 50 lbs and performing demanding work.
Valid driver’s license, clean driver’s abstract, and reliable transportation.
Ability to drive standard (manual transmission) vehicles.
Comfortable using service/dispatch software.
Willingness to travel, work overtime, and perform occasional weekend work.

Confined Space certification
First Aid certification
Trailer endorsement or Class 1 / Class 3 license
Experience with service cranes, lifts, or working at heights
Rigging ticket or demonstrated rigging experience
Union experience (UA 170 or similar)
Comfort working in both field and shop environments

Work Environment & Schedule
Your day starts at the shop before dispatching to job sites. Work locations vary and include hospitals, municipal infrastructure, city projects, and remote sites. Travel may involve driving long distances or flying, with accommodations provided.
Typical workweeks range from 40–50 hours , with overtime and weekend work as needed. When field work slows, you’ll work in the shop rebuilding and maintaining equipment—ensuring steady employment year-round. The environment is safety-focused, hands-on, and collaborative, using professional-grade tools, service software, cranes, lifts, and rigging equipment where qualified.
