Job Description
The Sterile Processing Technician plays a key role in supporting a high-volume ambulatory surgery center by ensuring all procedure rooms are properly stocked, organized, and equipped for safe and efficient surgical care. This position focuses on preparing, cleaning, and transporting instruments and equipment for sterilization while closely following established safety, infection prevention, and facility protocols. The role also supports operating room teams with room setup, turnover, and supply management to help maintain smooth clinical operations.
Responsibilities
Ensure procedure rooms are fully stocked with appropriate supplies, instruments, and equipment prior to each case.
Verify that all required equipment is present and functioning, and promptly alert leadership or licensed staff if any equipment issues are identified.
Assist with room setup before procedures, following facility and ambulatory surgery center (ASC) protocols.
Support room turnover between procedures by cleaning, organizing, and preparing the environment according to established standards.
Transport supplies, equipment, and materials throughout the facility to support surgical and clinical teams as needed.
Clean, organize, and prepare instruments and equipment for transport to sterilization in strict accordance with ASC policies.
Perform basic decontamination and preparation activities to support proper sterilization and aseptic handling of surgical instruments.
Assist with stocking and inventory management of supplies in operating rooms, sterile storage, and related areas.
Monitor supply usage and communicate inventory needs or shortages to Materials Management or leadership in a timely manner.
Maintain a clean and orderly work area, supporting an efficient and safe environment for staff and patients.
Follow all ASC safety, infection prevention, and waste-handling policies and procedures at all times.
Apply sterile processing and aseptic technique principles to help reduce infection risk and support high-quality patient care.
Collaborate with surgical and clinical staff to ensure instruments and supplies are available when needed for scheduled procedures.
Adhere to facility protocols for handling, storing, and transporting sterile and non-sterile items.
Essential Skills
Demonstrated knowledge of sterilization processes and sterile processing practices.
Understanding and application of aseptic technique in a surgical or procedural setting.
Familiarity with surgical instrumentation and basic instrument identification.
Ability to perform thorough cleaning, prepping, and organizing of instruments and equipment.
Experience working in or around cleanroom or controlled environments.
Basic patient care awareness to support safe handling of equipment used in clinical care.
Attention to detail and accuracy when stocking, counting, and tracking supplies and instruments.
Ability to follow written policies, protocols, and safety procedures consistently.
Effective communication skills to report equipment issues and inventory needs to leadership and Materials Management.
Physical ability to stand for extended periods, push carts, and transport supplies and equipment safely.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
1–2 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist or Surgical Tech preferred.
Completion of a Surgical Technologist training program, either accredited or hospital-based, preferred.
Surgical Technologist certification preferred.
Surgical Technologist license is highly preferred where applicable.
COA (Certified Ophthalmic Assistant) certification preferred.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 3 months of hire.
Previous experience in an ambulatory surgery center (ASC) or high-volume surgical environment is an advantage.
Ability to work part-time and adapt to a variable schedule based on facility needs.
Strong teamwork skills and a collaborative approach to supporting surgical and clinical staff.
Work Environment
This role is based in an ambulatory surgery center (ASC) located in Lakewood, working in a fast-paced, high-volume surgical environment. The position is part-time, with shifts generally starting at 6:30 a.m. and ending between 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., depending on the day and case volume. The work involves frequent movement throughout operating rooms, sterile storage, and related clinical areas, as well as regular handling of surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies. You will work closely with surgical, nursing, and materials management teams in a professional, safety-focused environment that emphasizes infection prevention, proper waste handling, and adherence to ASC protocols.

This is a Contract position based out of Lakewood, CO.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.37 - $32.22/hr.
