Note: The primary work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. This position requires schedule flexibility, including availability to work weekends and alternative hours based on departmental needs. This position is essential personnel, requiring being on duty to perform emergency services of the agency without delay and/or interruption.

Description of Job
This position serves as a work leader and oversees and directs the work of other Police Officers and College Safety and Security Technicians on their shift, including assigning tasks or work, monitoring progress and workflow, checking employee’s work, scheduling work, and establishing work standards. Provides input to the unit supervisor (Sergeant) on leave requests and covering shifts. Document Police Officer I and College Safety and Security Technician activities to assist unit supervisor (Sergeant) in the evaluation process and prepare oral and/or written reports for command staff. In the absence of the Sergeant, provide supervision of officers and noncommissioned security personnel on duty. Completes tasks assigned by supervisor and department leadership in a timely manner.
This position is expected to conduct vehicle and foot patrol for detection of criminal activity in a college campus venue. The person in this position will respond to calls for service given by communications personnel, investigate and gather evidence at crime scenes, administer basic first aid, establish control of situations, enforce criminal and traffic related laws, restrain persons for arrest, and prepare reports for proper and appropriate documentation. This position allows the officer to testify in court and make community presentations on safety and crime prevention methods or programs.
Prepares reports, both written and verbal, regarding all activities performed during a shift. Prepares and completes necessary reports regarding criminal activity for presentation to the District Attorney for prosecution. Prepares and completes the necessary reports for Campus Administrative action or actions, to include dissemination by department leadership. Prepares and preserves all necessary and required evidence, and log and store the evidence properly. Position is responsible for the review of investigative work of others to ensure evidence standards and may review reports and logs for accuracy and completeness.
Provides on the job training, direction and evaluation for the purpose of producing a well-trained police officer able to work solo assignments in a safe, skillful, productive and professional manner. Document the trainee’s progress through each phase and recommend continuation of training. After training, recommends either remedial training or release as a solo officer. Manages the Department’s arrest control, firearms, FTO, and research and development programs. Ensures department members are current and adequately trained in these programs as directed by P.O.S.T., NRA, and other certifying organizations. Position may also train others in the department in a variety of specialty topics. Participates in in-service and specialized Law Enforcement training and continuing education. Maintain proficiency in firearms, arrest control, defensive tactics, and any P.O.S.T. required training. Maintain an ongoing familiarity with current Law Enforcement legal issues and recent local, state, and federal court decisions that affect Law Enforcement.
Maintains crowd and traffic control at public events such as July 4th, political rallies, demonstrations, concerts, sporting events, and Academy and RRCC graduations. Provides specialized enforcement for public events such as July 4th, political rallies, demonstrations, concerts, sporting events, and Academy and RRCC graduations. Coordinates efforts with appropriate Law Enforcement regarding dignitary protection and security. Provides Law Enforcement escorts as appropriate for campus monetary operations. Assists the motoring public as needed. Lock/unlock RRCC facilities as needed. Responsible for the college’s access control management system, creating and updating door schedules as needed and overseeing the creation of access control badges.
Appears when requested and required in the appropriate court (County, District, municipal, etc.). Provides and gives testimony relative to the investigation of crimes and the charging of individuals with criminal and non-criminal offenses. Provides and gives testimony in non-criminal cases as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
Possession of a current, valid Colorado Peace Officer Standards Training (P.O.S.T.) certification and a minimum of two years law enforcement experience which includes patrolling, apprehending, arresting and enforcing criminal and civil laws. Submit a copy of your POST/PID certificate with application in order to be considered. Do not use "SEE RESUME" statements on application; your application must be completed in detail and clearly document your relevant work experience. (Part time experience will be pro-rated).
Substitutions:
Appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis but will not substitute for the POST certification.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Must be at least 21 years of age and possess a valid Driver License. Must be able obtain the First Aid/CPR/AED certification within 90 days of hire if not already certified. Must not have any of the following:
Felony convictions
Domestic violence convictions
Acquiring more than seven points in the last year and/or more than 12 points within the last two years on a driver's license
Alcohol/drug related traffic convictions in the last three years and repeat alcohol/drug convictions after the age of 18 within the last ten years
Note: Positions are subject to a background investigation in accordance with the administrative procedures of the State Personnel Director. Physical and psychological evaluations are required in accordance with section 24-31-303 (5)(b), C.R.S.
Conditions of Employment: The Background investigation is part of the exam process. You must pass the initial review to continue in the examination and interviewing process.
After a conditional offer of employment is made, prospective employee will be required to submit to and satisfactorily pass a polygraph examination, physical and psychological examinations by a doctor or health care facility which is selected or approved by Red Rocks Community College Campus Police Department in order to determine whether or not a prospective employee can perform the essential functions of the job.
Felony convictions or conviction of crimes of moral turpitude or convictions of misdemeanors related to job duties may disqualify you from consideration for this position. Should your background check reveal any charges and convictions, it is your responsibility to provide RRCC Office of Human Resources with an official disposition of the charges.
This position requires the individual to exert or lift in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. It also requires seizing, holding, controlling, and/or otherwise subduing violent, assaultive, or physically threatening persons to defend oneself or prevent injury. Body strength and agility of all four limbs is necessary.
