OVERVIEW:
The Human Resources (HR) Generalist performs HR responsibilities at a professional level while serving as a trusted resource to business leaders and employees. This role supports and influences key people processes including performance management, onboarding, employee relations, and employment law compliance, while advising through complex and sensitive situations with guidance from the HR Manager. The HR Generalist works proactively with assigned business unit(s) to implement people initiatives, anticipate needs, and provide practical, business‑aligned HR solutions.
Compensation for this Role: $80,000 to $90,000 Depending on Experience

Specific Responsibilities:
Serve as a trusted advisor to business leaders by guiding them through complex, sensitive, and high‑impact people matters with sound judgment and practical solutions
Develop a strong understanding of the construction industry to deliver practical, compliant HR solutions aligned with business needs
Lead confidently through ambiguity and discomfort, helping leaders navigate difficult conversations, decisions, and change while maintaining alignment with company values and policy
De‑escalate escalated situations by bringing clarity, perspective, and steady leadership, acting as a calm and objective voice focused on resolution and risk mitigation
Leverage data, trends, and insights to inform leadership decisions, balancing people impact with business outcomes to drive thoughtful, informed action
Administer and support the performance review process as directed, including apprentice self-reviews, ensuring consistency, compliance, and equitable application across the organization
Provide compensation guidance aligned with Encore’s compensation framework
Partner with business leadership to coordinate and implement payroll-related changes
Ensure apprentice job titles are accurate by conducting periodic audits and processing title updates
Manage weekly payroll changes in HRIS and communicate updates to Payroll in accordance with established procedures
Demonstrate a continuous improvement mindset by identifying opportunities to streamline and improve
Conduct training and create resources to support the performance management processes
Serve as an Encore Ambassador by delivering a welcoming, professional onboarding experience that creates a strong first impression and supports new hire engagement from day one
Key responsibilities include:
Lead the first hour of weekly orientation, covering topics such as Welcome to Encore, company overview, workplace expectations and timekeeping
Ensure all new hire documentation is completed accurately, on time, and reported weekly, including E-Verify, I-9, and W-4 forms
Maintain ownership of orientation materials and continuously update content to reflect organizational changes, compliance requirements, and best practices
Act as a resource to the HR Coordinator on pre-employment requirements, helping ensure all onboarding items are completed accurately and on time
Conduct adverse action processes as directed, ensuring consistency and compliance with company policy and regulatory requirements
Support and progressively lead employee relations investigations in partnership with HR Manager, building toward independent case management
Coach on and conduct counseling conversations and issue corrective action documentation as needed, ensuring consistency, fairness, and alignment with company policy
Serve as a primary point of contact for employee concerns, providing guidance, triage, and resolution support across the organization
Identify and escalate emerging trends, risks, or system issues to HR Manager, including recurring employee relations patterns
Document investigation notes thoroughly and as accurately as possible
Remain accessible and responsive to urgent or sensitive employee relations matters as business needs require
Manage unemployment claims, including preparing responses and representing the company in hearings
Partner with leadership to address attendance issues, including 2‑day no call/no show situations, and take appropriate follow‑up action in accordance with policy
Lead through and manage involuntary separations as directed, partnering closely with HR Manager and business leaders to ensure decisions are executed consistently, respectfully, and in alignment with company policy and risk considerations
Process involuntary separations accurately and timely in UKG, ensuring all downstream impacts are addressed
Coordinate voluntary separations by partnering with the HR Coordinator for processing and serving as backup support to ensure continuity and accuracy
Maintain strong awareness of applicable employment laws and regulations, working within those requirements while advising leaders on practical, compliant solutions that support business objectives
Serve as a consultative resource to leadership on compliance‑related matters, helping balance legal risk, employee experience, and operational needs
Support Affirmative Action initiatives as requested, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with regulatory expectations
Proactively identify situations requiring Risk Management involvement and collaborate to ensure a coordinated, unified approach
Safeguard Personally Identifiable Information (PII) by exercising sound judgment regarding confidentiality, data access, and appropriate information sharing
Document, maintain, and update all processes within the scope of the role using established templates, ensuring documentation is accurate, current, and centrally stored
Serve as a change leader in day‑to‑day operations by supporting and implementing new processes, applications, systems, and modules that enhance the employee and leader experience
Establish, maintain, and govern accurate HR records and reporting across systems and platforms (UKG, Vault), ensuring data integrity, accessibility, and compliance
Partner with the HR Coordinator to support timely and accurate completion, organization, and retention of employee documentation, providing guidance and backup as needed
Lead the annual I‑9 audit, identifying risks, ensuring corrective action, and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements
Drive annual job description initiatives, including:
Ensuring all roles are properly documented, consistently formatted, correctly classified under FLSA, include required EEO language, and align with current business needs
A current, approved job description is on file for every active role, proactively addressing gaps and supporting organizational clarity
Recognize and support employee career milestones, including congratulating newly promoted Journeymen and coordinating associated payroll change documentation.
Build and maintain strong relationships across the organization by proactively engaging with leaders and employees through in‑person interactions and direct communication.Research and recommend thoughtful solutions to HR challenges using reputable resources (e.g., SHRM) and industry best practices
Demonstrate high integrity and sound judgment by ensuring consistency, fairness, and alignment with company values across all HR practice
Actively pursue ongoing professional development by attending relevant trainings, seminars, and learning opportunities throughout the year

REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires at least four years experience in Human Resources as well as a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or other related degree. HR certification preferred.
