GENERAL PURPOSE:
Police Recruits report to a Recruitment Training Officer and Class Sergeant. The fundamental reason this classification exists is to serve as an entry level trainee class for general duty police work. Employees in this class are required to attend an Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training (AZPOST) approved Police Academy and shall complete the full-authority peace officer basic training course. After the successful completion of the Police Academy, employees are assigned to a Field Training Officer (FTO) for on-the-job training. Upon successful completion of field training employees are eligible to be promoted to the class of Police Officer.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
Learns to:
- Preserve the peace of the community through mediation, investigation, intervention, documentation, and arrest; utilize all lawful means to improve the quality of life by reducing the fear and incidence of crime, recognize and resolve problems, and protect and serve the Citizens of Pinetop-Lakeside.
- Patrol the Town to respond to requests for assistance, enforce traffic regulations, detect crime, apprehend violators, and assure public safety.
Patrol and provides security for assigned areas, looking for unusual or suspicious activities or people.
- Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service.
- Conduct interviews with victims, witnesses and suspects in cases; provide scene security and protection for Fire and Medical personnel.
- Enforce compliance with local, state and Federal laws, regulations and ordinances.
- Investigate crimes and accidents; secure and process crime and accident scenes and identify and collect evidence within scope of authority.
- Arrest, transport and book prisoners to detention facility.
- Write accident, incident and activity reports and complete required paperwork.
- Maintain vehicle and equipment according to Department standards.
- Assist and coordinate with other emergency services personnel, outside organizations and businesses, and Federal, state and local law enforcement organizations.
- Perform specialized functions in areas of expertise, including investigations, firearms instruction, field training officer, K-9, phlebotomy, School Resource Officer, and other special intervention and investigative teams.
- Maintain the integrity, professionalism, values, and goals of the Department by assuring that all rules and regulations are followed, and that accountability and public trust are preserved.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalent and a clear criminal record required.
Required Licenses or Certifications:

- Must be able to obtain Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification and State of Arizona D ivers license.
Physical Demands / Work Environment:
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors with exposure to inclement weather; may be exposed to physical attacks, hazardous chemicals, drugs, infectious and communicable diseases; required to physically restrain persons.
- Must be able to work during weekdays, weekends, and holidays on any assigned shift.
- Must maintain a level of physical fitness to meet Department standards.
