GENERAL PURPOSE:
Under general supervision, performs semi-skilled and skilled work includes operating equipment involved with the repair and maintenance of Town streets, parks, storm water drainage, facilities and other municipal property.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties are not intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
- Assist in repairs and maintenance of Town streets, right-ofway, sidewalks, storm water systems, parks, municipal property and equipment.
Duties include but not limited to:
- Street repairs: pothole patching, crack sealing operation, flagging and traffic control, guardrail maintenance, weed removal and street sweeping.
- Right-of-way and sidewalks: tree trimming and removal, concrete sidewalk removal and repair, and handrail maintenance.
- Storm water systems: clean and repair catch basins, drainage ditches, culverts and other structures. Aid in inspection of storm water systems.
- Parks: clean, repair and maintain park bathrooms, fields, streets and other structures.
- Municipal property: repair and maintenance of Town facilities.
- Snow removal: including but not limited to snow plowing, cindering, shoveling sidewalks and trails and ice control for facilities.
- Work with materials such as bituminous materials, sand, gravel, cinders, black dirt and salt.
- Operate equipment such as tandem axle dump trucks, steel wheel and rubber tire rollers, street sweepers, backhoe, loader, water truck, asphalt paver, jet vacuum for storm water and other miscellaneous equipment as assigned.
- Maintain maintenance records and estimates, requisitions supplies, materials and equipment when necessary and assigned.
- Maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
- Maintain regular, reliable attendance during scheduled work hours and outside regular hours as necessary.
- Responsible to work overtime, shift changes, or be on call as necessary or assigned.
- Adhere to safety rules and procedures, workplace rules and Town policies.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as apparent or assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of one year of street/park/storm water/facility maintenance or construction experience, including equipment operation, or necessary requisite training.
- Valid Arizona drivers license.
- Valid Class CDL Permit or the ability to obtain a CDL License within six months of hire.
- Experience working in municipal public works department is preferred.
- Training/education in maintenance, machinery, mechanics or related field preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Knowledge of:
Methods, materials, tools, equipment, and safety practices used in public works construction, maintenance, and repair activities.
- Basic practices related to street maintenance, sidewalk and right-of-way maintenance, storm water system maintenance, parks maintenance, and municipal facility upkeep.
- Operation, care, and routine preventive maintenance of hand tools, power tools, light and heavy equipment, and vehicles used in public works operations.
- Traffic control procedures, work zone safety requirements, and applicable flagging practices.
- Occupational hazards and safe work methods associated with maintenance and construction activities, including trenching/excavation awareness, equipment oper tion, lifting, and working in inclement weather.
- Basic recordkeeping practices, including work orders, maintenance logs, material usage, and equipment inspections.
- Applicable Town policies, procedures, and departmental work standards.
- Basic customer service practices for interacting with coworkers, residents, contractors, and the public.
Skill in:
Performing semi-skilled and skilled maintenance and repair work in streets, parks, storm water systems, rights-of-way, sidewalks, and municipal facilities.
Safely operating and using assigned vehicles, tools, machinery, and heavy equipment.
Performing manual labor for extended periods under varying weather and site conditions.
Inspecting assigned work areas and identifying maintenance, repair, and safety issues.
Following oral and written instructions, work schedules, and technical or operational procedures.
Maintaining basic records, logs, and reports related to work performed, materials used, and equipment operation.
Using sound judgment and responding appropriately to changing field conditions and operational priorities.
