Opportunity Summary
An Insight Global client is seeking an Area Manager – Transportation to lead the strategic, operational, and growth performance of its Central Florida Transportation practice, based in Lake Mary (north of Orlando, just south of the FDOT District 5 office).
This is a high‑visibility, externally facing leadership role designed for a proven transportation leader who excels in client engagement, business development, and regional growth execution. The Area Manager will spend a significant portion of their time advancing strategic initiatives in close alignment with peer Area Managers across Florida, with shared accountability for statewide transportation growth.
The Lake Mary office is an established operation with 20+ professionals within their Transportation Design and CEI practice, providing a strong operational foundation and meaningful growth runway. This role operates within a matrix organization and shared Florida P&L, intentionally structured to promote collaboration and eliminate internal market competition.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
• Lead the strategic, operational, and financial performance of the Central Florida Transportation area in alignment with enterprise and Florida operating objectives.
• Establish and execute annual business plans, growth strategies, and market priorities.
• Analyze market, client, and industry trends to position the organization for sustained growth across Central Florida and adjacent regions.
• Serve as a visible leader and ambassador with clients, industry organizations, teaming partners, and community stakeholders.
Client, Market & Growth Leadership
• Act as a senior, externally facing leader, strengthening and expanding relationships with FDOT District 5, regional agencies, municipalities, and public-sector partners.
• Build strong cross‑disciplinary partnerships with business development leaders, technical discipline leads, and teaming partners to deliver an integrated, client‑focused approach across planning, design, engineering, and construction services.
• Lead major pursuits, shape teaming strategies, and drive business development efforts that increase backlog, revenue, and market presence.
• Collaborate across Florida markets to support shared pursuits and delivery, including ongoing support of Tampa-area work.
Operational & Financial Management
• Oversee area-level operations including staffing strategy, resource planning, project execution, and overhead management.
• Ensure projects are delivered with a strong emphasis on quality, financial performance, schedule, and client satisfaction.
• Monitor business performance, forecast results, and implement corrective actions to achieve financial and operational targets.
• Ensure adherence to internal policies, procedures, and quality standards.
Talent, Culture & Matrix Leadership
• Lead and advance a high-performing, multidisciplinary Transportation team including Project Managers, Engineers, Planners, and CEI professionals.
• Recruit, develop, and retain top talent aligned with current and future growth needs.
• Operate effectively within a matrix organization, where direct reports may be limited and influence, collaboration, and leadership presence are critical.
• Mentor emerging leaders, support succession planning, and foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high‑performance culture.
Role Focus
• Primary: Growth strategy, client engagement, market positioning, and pursuit leadership
• Secondary: Operational oversight and delivery excellence
• Model: Shared accountability across a Florida-wide P&L and collaborative market framework

• Growth of Central Florida Transportation revenue and backlog beyond the current baseline
• Strong senior-level client relationships and improved win rates with FDOT and regional agencies.
• Sustained momentum in staffing, delivery performance, and market credibility.
• Clear alignment and collaboration across Florida markets, including Tampa.
• Recognition as a trusted Area Manager and market leader internally and externally.

Skills and Requirements
• 15–20+ years of progressive leadership experience in transportation engineering, operations, and market growth.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Planning, or a related discipline.
• Florida Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• Demonstrated experience working with FDOT (District 5 strongly preferred) and/or Florida local agencies.
• Proven success leading business development efforts, major pursuits, and regional growth strategies.
• Experience managing multidisciplinary project teams and complex transportation programs.
• Strong financial acumen and operational management experience.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with executive-level presence. • Experience with PD&E, CEI, Alternative Delivery, and/or Design‑Build transportation projects.
• Track record of scaling a regional practice or service line within a matrix organization.
• Established relationships within the Central Florida transportation market.
Ability to balance external growth leadership with disciplined execution.
