Actalent Electrical Design Engineer II in LAKE MARY, Florida

Job Title: Electrical Design Engineer IIJob Description

This role involves leading and designing electrical power distribution and signal networks for auxiliary equipment in Gas Turbine projects, with a focus on low-voltage systems (600V and below). Key tasks include working with equipment such as MCCs, LV Transformers, DC Systems, and Batteries.

Responsibilities

  • Develop single-line diagrams, panelboard schedules, electrical load lists, motor lists, wiring diagrams, control schematics, cable schedules, and termination schedules.

  • Create power system plans, lighting plans, electrical room layouts, elevation drawings, conduit/cable tray arrangements, and hazardous area classifications.

  • Perform calculations for equipment sizing (e.g., breakers, overload devices, relays), cable/conduit sizing, equipment spacing, and illumination levels while maintaining BOMs.

  • Develop and review electrical, control, and instrumentation wiring diagrams and cable lists using SmartPlant Electrical (SPEL) or SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI).

  • Prepare purchase specifications for electrical equipment and select vendors to construct electrical packages.

  • Generate electrical drawing packages for documentation of logic, point-to-point wiring, and system interaction.

  • Ensure designs comply with applicable electrical codes and investigate, understand, and interpret these codes as necessary.

  • Regularly meet with vendors to ensure all technical and schedule requirements are met.

  • Interpret and integrate design requirements from the parent company.

  • Respond to technical inquiries from customers, vendors, and field personnel.

  • Utilize SmartPlant Electrical (SPEL), SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI), and SmartPlant 3D (S3D) to design electrical power and control systems.

  • Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures, reporting any unsafe activities.

  • Participate in team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.

  • Develop schedules and manage design projects with minimal supervision.

  • Support manufacturing and commissioning of equipment with technical expertise.

  • Lead and support the development of junior engineers and interns.

  • Travel up to 10% may be required.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.

  • Minimum three years of experience in industrial facility power distribution design (up to 600VAC and 220VDC) with signal propagation.

  • Familiarity with electrical codes and industry standards, including strong knowledge of the National Electric Code NFPA 70.

  • Experience with SmartPlant Electrical, SmartPlant Instrumentation, and SmartPlant 3D.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with Gas/Steam Turbines is advantageous.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and lighting calculation software like DIALux or Visual.

  • Familiarity with NEMA, IEC, IEEE, ISA, ANSI, NFPA 70E, UL, CSA, TUV, and other standards.

Work Environment

The position is based in an office in Lake Mary, FL, with the option to work a hybrid schedule of three days in the office and two days remotely. The company offers a generous benefits package, including 17 days of PTO, 11 paid holidays, unlimited sick time, and a 100% match on the first 6% of contributions. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $31.25 - $48.00/hr.
