SUBSTITUTE ACTIVITY LEADER

Kernville Elementary, Kernville, CA (+2 locations)

Part-Time | $19.00/hr

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old and provide proof of high school graduation or GED.
  • Must have a negative TB test within the past four years
  • Have attained either 48 semester units, 68 quarter units, or a paraprofessional certification.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification is required.
  • Must be able to read, write, and assist with math and homework for all grade levels.
  • Requires experience working with children, knowledge of youth development, the ability to motivate and manage youth, strong communication skills, and the ability to plan/supervise activities in a safe environment.

SUMMARY

The Activity Leader plans, teaches, supervises, and evaluates activities in areas such as Education, Social Emotional Learning, Special Education, Recreation, Arts and Crafts, Physical Education, Safety, Sanitation, and STEAM. The role supports youth development and actively uses organizational tools and resources.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Youth Support and Engagement

Create a positive environment that supports Youth Development Outcomes. Use Knowledge Library resources, promote program participation, help recruit members, engage students, and serve as a positive role model.

Workplace Responsibilities

Attend weekly program meetings and all required site meetings. Complete mandated reporting documents, stay current on monthly safety topics, and consistently ensure a safe environment for staff and members. Regularly assess program areas for safety, quality, and overall appearance.

Program Instruction/Implementation

Plan, create, and lead daily activities and program lessons. Submit required lesson plans or schedules, apply BGCKC youth development strategies, and maintain effective classroom management. Use district curriculum and positive redirection techniques. Prepare required reports and complete weekly ADP reviews. Follow all Boys and Girls Club and school district policies. Must be able to independently supervise at least 20 children safely.

Safety

Maintain a strong commitment to safety by following all safety practices and procedures, communicating concerns, and supporting a culture of accountability. Maintain Mandated Reporter certification and complete annual Child Abuse Prevention training. Participate in all emergency preparedness drills and protocols.

Additional Duties

Participate in special programs and events, use the LEARN customer service model when working with families and stakeholders, assist with events such as Parent Night or Back to School Night, and complete other duties as assigned.

Relationships

Maintain daily communication with staff, members, and supervisors for collaboration, guidance, and support, following the BGCKC Code of Conduct. Work with schools, parents, and community contacts to support participation and resolve program-related issues.

Physical Requirements

This role requires clear verbal communication and the ability to hear well. Tasks may involve sitting, standing, walking, reaching, climbing, balancing, running, and various physical movements such as stooping or kneeling. Must have adequate vision for close work and be able to lift at least 15 lbs. Reasonable accommodations may be provided.
