Job Information

Actalent Electrical Design Engineer in Lafayette, Indiana

Job Description

The Electrical Engineer plays a key role in supporting engine electrical routing and harness design with a strong focus on practical implementation and problem solving. This position emphasizes hands-on troubleshooting, design review, and coordination rather than extensive direct CAD work. The engineer collaborates closely with manufacturing, quality, and offshore design partners to translate electrical schematics into robust physical harness designs and to implement design changes based on factory and field feedback. This opportunity is well suited for an early- to mid-career engineer who takes initiative, thinks critically, and thrives in a collaborative engineering environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support engine electrical routing and harness design, including the design and placement of brackets, clips, and physical layout of harnesses.

  • Perform hands-on troubleshooting of hardware issues such as harnesses rubbing or interfering with components, using a methodical approach to identify root causes.

  • Evaluate routing issues in the field and factory, and propose rerouting or design fixes that improve reliability and manufacturability.

  • Develop and support the reasoning behind corrective actions and ensure their effective implementation in the design.

  • Translate electrical schematics into accurate and practical physical harness designs that can be manufactured and assembled efficiently.

  • Review and mark up electrical and harness designs based on feedback from factory operations and field performance.

  • Coordinate design updates and changes with offshore design teams to ensure alignment and timely completion of work.

  • Support NPS partial design work and contribute to New Product Introduction (NPI) activities related to electrical routing and harnesses.

  • Collaborate closely with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to resolve design issues and improve product performance.

  • Use tools such as Creo, AutoCAD, Teamcenter, and Microsoft Office Suite to review, document, and communicate design changes.

  • Communicate clearly and proactively with cross-functional and offshore teams to ensure design intent, requirements, and changes are well understood.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.

  • 2+ years of engineering experience

  • Strong electrical experience

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and translate them into designs.

  • Hands-on experience with physical design and implementation of electrical systems or components.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Excel, and Word, for communication, analysis, and documentation.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and offshore design teams.

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills for addressing hardware and routing issues.

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills to document design changes, justifications, and corrective actions.
