Actalent Engineering Manager in Ladson, South Carolina

Job Description

The Engineering Director leads all engineering functions for raised access floor product lines. This role is responsible for mechanical design integrity, structural performance, product compliance, manufacturing alignment, and continuous product improvement. The position oversees new product development, engineering change management, testing and validation, regulatory compliance, and technical support to manufacturing and sales.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design and development of new raised access floor systems and related components.

  • Oversee structural analysis, load performance validation, and material selection.

  • Establish and maintain engineering design standards, specifications, and best practices.

  • Evaluate and approve design concepts, calculations, and technical documentation.

  • Drive value engineering initiatives to improve product performance, manufacturability, and cost efficiency.

  • Manage the full product lifecycle from concept through production release.

  • Develop and manage R&D project plans including scope, timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.

  • Review engineering proposals and submit capital and project recommendations to executive leadership.

  • Oversee engineering documentation systems, drawing control, and revision management.

  • Monitor KPIs related to engineering performance, product quality, and project execution.

  • Ensure alignment between engineering specifications and plant capabilities.

  • Maintain responsibility for product compliance in all domestic and international markets.

  • Oversee product testing, certification, and regulatory documentation.

  • Lead failure analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable building codes and industry standards.

  • Partner with Sales to provide technical support for new market opportunities.

  • Interface directly with customers on technical requirements and application solutions.

  • Manage relationships with external testing labs, consultants, and engineering partners.

  • Communicate engineering status, risks, and milestones to executive leadership.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in manufacturing design engineering, preferably in building products, structural systems, or raised access flooring.

  • Experience with structural load testing, metal fabrication, and product certification processes preferred.

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes including sheet metal, welding, forming, and coatings.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Solidworks and process improvement methodologies.

  • Strong leadership and management skills.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Work Environment

This role operates in a dynamic and collaborative environment, utilizing advanced engineering tools and methodologies. The position may require occasional travel to manufacturing plants, testing facilities, and client sites. The work involves engaging with cross-functional teams and external partners to achieve engineering excellence.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Ladson, SC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $120000.00 - $140000.00/yr.
