Job Title: Shipping and Inventory Lead

Job Description

The Shipping and Inventory Lead oversees daily inventory operations, ensuring accurate stock levels and timely delivery of materials to the production team. This role manages the movement of inventory from storage to the production floor, maintains precise inventory records in the system, and responds quickly to any discrepancies between system data and physical stock. The position combines hands-on material handling, including sit-down forklift operation, with inventory control and basic computer-based inventory management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day activities within the inventory department and serve as the primary point of contact for inventory-related needs.

  • Pull inventory from stock and deliver materials accurately and on time to the production team.

  • Maintain accurate inventory counts so that system records match the physical product on the floor.

  • Monitor inventory levels and proactively identify imbalances or discrepancies between the system and physical stock.

  • Investigate and resolve inventory issues, taking ownership to correct errors and prevent recurrence.

  • Perform shipping and receiving tasks, including checking in materials, verifying quantities, and organizing stock.

  • Operate a sit-down forklift safely to move, load, and unload materials as required.

  • Handle materials manually as needed, including lifting items up to 50 pounds.

  • Use computer-based inventory management tools to update counts, track movements, and document transactions.

  • Work collaboratively with the production team and other departments to ensure materials are available when needed.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe inventory and warehouse area in line with facility standards.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience in shipping and receiving operations.

  • Proven experience in inventory control and warehouse inventory management.

  • Proficiency operating a sit-down forklift and general forklift experience.

  • Computer literacy with experience using inventory management systems or related software.

  • Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.

  • Experience with material handling in a warehouse or production environment.

  • Attention to detail and accuracy in counting, recording, and tracking inventory.

  • Ability to identify, investigate, and resolve inventory discrepancies independently.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a warehouse inventory control role.

  • Experience in shipping and receiving within a production or manufacturing setting.

  • Comfort working in a smaller, growing operation where responsibilities can be varied and hands-on.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to addressing inventory issues.

  • Ability to work some overtime when business needs require it.

Work Environment

This role is based in a smaller manufacturing plant with approximately 35 people on site, creating a close-knit and collaborative atmosphere. The position follows a first-shift schedule, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional overtime as required. The work takes place in a warehouse and production environment where music plays in the plant, contributing to a lively and energetic setting. You will regularly use a sit-down forklift and other material handling equipment, work with computer-based inventory systems, and perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of LA PORTE, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
