Role Overview:

This position supports the installation, maintenance and repair of traffic signals, signs, panels and markings. This position addresses the increased seasonal workload and time sensitive maintenance.

Location:

This position is with INDOT's LaPorte District Traffic Division.

Pay Rate:

This position pays an hourly rate of $18.00.

A Day in the Life:

  • Install, maintain, and remove traffic signs, posts, and related equipment.

  • Operate a bucket truck and assist emergency on-site personnel.

  • Perform basic troubleshooting of equipment and systems related to signage.

  • Assist in fabrication of signs and layout of sign placement.

  • Ensure compliance with safety and traffic control regulations.

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on tools and equipment.

  • Work effectively as part of a two-person team.

  • Document daily work activities and report issues to lead / supervisor.

What You'll Need for Success:

  • High school diploma or GED required preferred.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

  • Mechanical aptitude and experience using hand and power tools.

  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

  • Must not be afraid of heights and able to safely use fall protection equipment.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • Basic problem-solving skills.

  • Forklift and Loader experience a plus.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.

Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:

This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
