Job Title: General Production Worker

Job Description

The General Production Worker supports high-volume food manufacturing by operating on production lines, handling and moving product bags and containers, and ensuring that products are accurately filled, sealed, and prepared for shipment. This role involves frequent lifting of bags weighing 1–20 pounds, occasional lifting of bags weighing 21–50 pounds, and, for some assignments, handling bags that may weigh up to 100 pounds. You will work in a fast-paced environment, performing routine and repetitive tasks while following clear written and verbal instructions to maintain consistent quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Read ingredient labels and accurately count the number of bags on pallets to ensure correct inventory and product identification.

  • Place scoops into cans, jars, or buckets according to product specifications and secure lids on cans, jars, and buckets.

  • Stack bags and containers of product as they come off the production lines, maintaining stable and safe pallet configurations.

  • Seal bags and cans of product as they come off the production lines, verifying that seals are secure and meet quality standards.

  • Bag product as it comes off the production lines, ensuring correct fill levels and proper packaging.

  • Dump bags of product into the appropriate equipment on the various production lines, following all safety and handling procedures.

  • Follow one- or two-step verbal instructions and read and follow written instructions to complete daily production tasks.

  • Perform routine and repetitive tasks with attention to detail, including completing simple checklists and required documentation accurately.

  • Use basic math, including fractions, decimals, and percentages, to support counting, measuring, and recording production data.

  • Operate basic production and packaging equipment and use hand tools and power tools as needed for assigned tasks.

  • Assist with general labor duties such as loading, picking, packing, and assembly on the production line.

  • Support quality checks by visually inspecting product and packaging for obvious defects and reporting issues to the appropriate personnel.

  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area, following sanitation and safety procedures in all work zones, including washroom sanitation tasks where assigned.

  • Adhere to all safety policies, including the proper use of required personal protective equipment (PPE), and report any unsafe conditions or incidents promptly.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to frequently lift and handle bags weighing 1–20 pounds and occasionally lift bags weighing 21–50 pounds, with some positions requiring handling of bags up to 100 pounds.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment while maintaining focus and accuracy.

  • Ability to follow one- or two-step verbal instructions and read and follow written instructions reliably.

  • Ability to perform routine and repetitive tasks with consistency and attention to detail.

  • Ability to carry out detailed but uncomplicated written or verbal instructions and complete simple checklists and documentation.

  • Basic math skills, including working with fractions, decimals, and percentages.

  • Basic computer skills, including the ability to input and retrieve information in computerized systems.

  • Capability to perform general production, assembly, and packaging tasks safely and efficiently.

  • Willingness and physical ability to stand, move, and handle materials throughout the shift.

  • Commitment to following safety, quality, and sanitation procedures at all times.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • No prior experience required; comprehensive in-house training is provided.

  • Experience in general labor, production, or manufacturing environments is helpful but not mandatory.

  • Familiarity with packaging, bagging, and packing processes is a plus.

  • Experience with machine operation or machine monitoring on a production line is beneficial.

  • Comfort using hand tools and power tools in a safe and controlled manner.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team and communicate clearly with coworkers and supervisors.

  • Reliability in attendance and punctuality to support continuous production operations.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of La Crosse, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.36 - $23.59/hr.
