Job Title: Construction Laborer – Truss Builder (2nd Shift)
Job Description
This role focuses on assembling cut lumber into floor and roof trusses according to precise specifications in an indoor construction environment. You will work with hand and power tools, read and follow production documents, and help move, stack, and band finished products while maintaining high quality and safety standards.
Responsibilities
Assemble cut material into floor and roof trusses according to detailed specifications and production requirements.
Read and interpret work orders and production schedules, including typed, handwritten, and on-screen documents.
Pull plates and ensure all necessary components are ready for assembly.
Set up and operate presses, nail guns, and other production equipment safely and efficiently.
Place cut material and plates in the correct positions based on truss design and specifications.
Connect plates using a hammer and/or press to build structurally sound trusses.
Lift, stack, and organize finished product from lumber carts, ensuring correct banding and marking of materials.
Push and pull product on carts to designated areas within the facility.
Perform continuous quality checks throughout the process to ensure accuracy in dimensions, lumber grades, and overall building process.
Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment at all times.
Maintain a clean and organized work area to support safe and efficient operations.
Essential Skills
At least 6+ months of manufacturing or construction experience.
Ability to read and interpret work orders and production schedules in various formats (typed, handwritten, and computer screen).
Proficiency using hand tools and power tools in a construction or manufacturing setting.
Ability to use and read a tape measure accurately.
Capability to set up and operate presses, nail guns, and related equipment.
Ability to consistently lift 50+ pounds throughout the shift.
Successful completion of a skills and measuring test with a score of 90% or better.
Commitment to wearing required PPE, including steel-toed boots, safety glasses, ear plugs, and gloves.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Previous experience in truss building, framing, or similar assembly work is beneficial.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
Reliability and strong work ethic in a fast-paced production environment.
Comfort working around industrial equipment and machinery.

Work Environment
This position is based in an indoor truss-building facility, providing a construction-type environment without outdoor weather exposure. The work area includes typical industrial conditions such as dust, dirt, and equipment noise. Team members use hand tools, power tools, presses, and nail guns as part of the assembly process. Personal protective equipment is required at all times, including steel-toed boots, safety glasses, ear plugs, and gloves; face masks are available and used as needed. The role is primarily for 2nd shift (3:00 PM – 11:00 PM), with an initial orientation at 7:30 AM on the first day. A 1st shift (7:00 AM – 3:00 PM) also operates in the same environment. The dress code is consistent with an industrial setting, emphasizing safety footwear and appropriate work attire suitable for a dusty, active production floor.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of La Crescent, MN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.25 - $19.75/hr.
