Summary:

The Mission of the Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC) is to create a model correctional system that provides equitable access to programming and opportunities that reflect community experience, foster connections, and restore victims of crime. The Idaho Department of Correction is currently recruiting for a full time Security and Safety Systems Foreman position. This position has a wide variety of duties requiring a broad range of skills related to electronic commercial and detention locking systems and maintain firefighting equipment. Incumbents work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions and moves in and around confined spaces. The incumbent is expected to work non-standard hours including weekends. In addition, they will also be required to test and be a member of the CFRT (Correctional Fire Response Team). This position will be filled at the South Boise Correctional Complex.

Responsibilities:

  • Responds to calls regarding defective locking devices.

  • Repairs or adjusts electronic locking systems for temporary manual operation.

  • Orders and installs replacement parts and tests system for proper functioning Installs and repairs door locks and closures and copies keys for master keying.

  • Dismantles and rebuilds various types of locks Installs new locks.

  • Develops and maintains an inventory control system for each lock and building.

  • Develops policies and procedures for firefighting and prevention activities.

  • Inspects buildings and building plans to determine necessary fire protection.

  • Develops fire evacuation plans and ensures plans are posted.

  • Trains residents and staff in fire prevention and fighting techniques and fire equipment operation.

  • Repairs and schedules recharging of fire extinguishers and ensures firefighting equipment is in working order.

  • Responds to fire-in-progress calls and directs the firefighting effort.

  • Determines equipment or chemicals needed to combat fire.

  • Operates a variety of power and hand tools and fire equipment.

  • Recommends hiring of resident workers.

  • Assigns work and evaluates performance.

  • Maintains custody of residents.

  • Conducts searches of residents for weapons, tools, and contraband.

  • Trains resident crews in minor maintenance activities within each facility.

    Minimum Qualifications: Your resume needs to clearly articulate how your skills, education and experience meet the qualifications below -

  • Good knowledge of the operation of electronic and standard locking devices. This is typically gained through successful completion of prescribed vocational education; OR Successful completion of seminar/workshop/training program equivalent to three-day course (approximately 20 hours) specific to the subject area and at least 1 year successful work experience performing a variety of the tasks and functions specific to the subject area; OR At least (2) years of successful work experience performing a variety of the tasks or functions specific to the subject area (or the experience required to successfully complete and apprenticeship/training program in the subject field); OR you have no experience but are willing to obtain it within 12 months from date of hire from courses provided by IDOC.

  • Good knowledge of fire prevention and firefighting techniques. This is typically gained through successful completion of prescribed vocation education or associate degree requirements specific to the subject area OR Successful completion of a seminar/workshop/training program equivalent to a three-day course (approximately 20 hours) specific to the subject area and at least 1 year successful work experience performing a variety of the tasks and functions specific to the subject area OR At least 2 years of successful work experience performing a variety of the tasks or functions specific to the subject area (or the experience required to successfully complete and apprenticeship./training program in the subject area); OR you have no experience but are willing to obtain it within 12 months from date of hire from courses provided by IDOC.

  • Some knowledge of supervisory practices. This is typically gained through successful completion of a class or seminar (more than one day), specifically covering supervisory practices OR leadwork experience that required work direction, monitoring work, and making work assignments (such experience on a fill-in basis is not qualifying unless for a period of approximately three months or more).

  • Experience using locksmith tools and equipment. This is typically gain through successfully completing vocational education OR Successful completion of workshop/training programs specific to the subject area and at least six months experience OR At least (2) years of successful work experience performing the tasks or functions specific to using locksmith tools and equipment; OR you have no experience but are willing to obtain it within 12 months from date of hire from courses provided by IDOC.

  • Good knowledge of operating fire equipment. Typically gained by serving on a municipal, military, or volunteer fire department for six months OR Completion of training that is equivalent of 32 hours (typically 8 hours in the classroom, 24 hours of hands-on experience); OR you have no experience but are willing to obtain it within 12 months from date of hire from courses provided by IDOC.

    Specialty Qualifications:

  • Willingness to work in a correctional facility.
