Job Description: Hub and Gateways Supervisor
Job Purpose
The Hub and Gateway Supervisor oversees daily air hub, sort, and gateway operations to ensure shipments are processed safely, securely, and efficiently, while meeting all aviation, security, and regulatory requirements. This role leads frontline teams to consistently achieve service standards, maintain a safety-first culture, and support operational excellence through analytics, cost control, innovation, and digital tools.
The UPS Gateway component of the role includes managing inbound and outbound flight operations, ensuring accurate documentation, coordinating with air carriers, customs, brokerage teams, and maintaining strict compliance with UPS gateway standards and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
1. Hub & Sort Operations Management
Oversee daily hub and sort activities to ensure accuracy, productivity, and on-time performance.
Allocate manpower, equipment, and resources according to operational demands and SLAs.
Monitor workflow and promptly resolve issues to avoid service delays.
Ensure all shipments are handled according to SOPs, customer requirements, and company standards.
2. Gateway Operations (UPS Gateway Responsibilities Included)
Manage inbound and outbound flight operations, including document verification, load plans, and screening compliance.
Oversee loading/unloading activities at the Gateway to ensure timely processing of packages.
Coordinate with airline partners, ground handlers, customs, and brokerage teams for smooth flight movements.
Ensure accuracy and completeness of gateway documentation such as master airway bills, manifests, load sheets, and customs data.
Monitor flight cut-offs, uplift performance, load factors, and ensure all exceptions or deviations are recorded and escalated properly.
Support financial goals by reviewing gateway-related costs, uplift charges, and reporting variances.
Enforce strict compliance with UPS gateway procedures, aviation regulations, and security protocols.
Conduct gateway audits and ensure proper record-keeping for regulatory and UPS-required audits (e.g., TSA/CAA, security checks, X-ray screening compliance).
Complete the monthly self-assessment and report it to the region.
3. Leadership & People Management
Lead and motivate hub, sort, and gateway teams to achieve operational goals and maintain high engagement.
Foster a culture built on safety, accountability, and service excellence.
Manage performance, develop talent pipelines, and support succession planning for key roles.
Provide coaching, mentoring, cross-skilling, and structured training to develop team capabilities.
Ensure all gateway and hub staff are trained, certified, and competent for their assigned tasks.
4. Safety, Security & Compliance
Ensure full compliance with aviation safety, security, and regulatory requirements across hub and gateway operations.
Enforce adherence to safety practices, risk assessments, and SOPs.
Lead or support internal/external audits, including AIE, QAP, ASCR, and gateway-specific audits.
Maintain documentation and compliance records required for regulatory bodies and UPS corporate standards.
5. Operational Excellence & Analytics
Use analytical insights to assess operational performance, cost efficiency, and productivity.
Perform cost analysis, root-cause investigations, and prepare business cases to drive improvements.
Track KPIs such as service levels, gateway uplift performance, safety metrics, cost per package, and productivity.
Develop actionable recommendations to improve service, cost, and operational efficiency.
6. Innovation & Digitalization
Drive continuous improvement and challenge outdated processes.
Leverage Microsoft 365 tools (Copilot, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams) to streamline operations and enhance collaboration.
Build Power BI dashboards to visualize hub/gateway performance and support decision-making.
Support automation, digitalization, and data-driven optimization initiatives across operations.
Qualifications & Experience
Diploma or bachelor’s degree in operations management, Logistics, Aviation Management, or related fields (preferred).
Minimum 3 years of experience in hub operations, air cargo, logistics, or fast-paced operational environments with supervisory responsibilities.
Ability to work in shift-based schedules, including weekends and public holidays.
Willingness to provide hands-on leadership during peak periods, disruptions, or critical windows.
