We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Sports and Recreation Manager .
In this role you will:
Deliver a high-quality corporate employee wellbeing programme and drive participation: Design and implement a broad range of employee initiatives, regularly reviewing and refreshing existing programmes to ensure they remain relevant. Develop and manage HMB tours for employees and customers, and support Heritage Tours in close partnership with Archives ASP.
Manage the Wayfoong Sports Club (WSC) to increase utilisation while controlling costs: Oversee contractors and their teams through scheduled and ad hoc inspections and review meetings. Introduce innovative activities to sustain and grow patronage, develop new concepts, and actively secure third-party support to optimise budget effectiveness.
Maintain robust financial reporting and control for WSC accounts: Ensure Bank and employee contributions are used appropriately through disciplined operational management. Run programmes and facilities cost-effectively without compromising service standards, supported by a strong understanding of the financial implications of WSC operations.
Champion new concepts and improvements to policies and procedures: Gather feedback from participants and customers, benchmark against peer organisations, and provide recommendations to management on policy updates and to the WSC Committee on new activities and enhancements.
Sustain effective communications and protect the Bank’s interests through strong external relationships: Maximise the Club website and other channels (e.g. ACL, Workplace and the WSC Newsletter) to promote activities and services. Proactively collect feedback on performance and offerings and represent the Bank/Club in the Inter-Hong Games Association and Community Chest organising committees, supporting strong outcomes in charity fundraising and sporting events.
Identify and engage external facilities and service providers: Build and maintain productive relationships with government bodies and commercial partners across sports and recreation to support Bank and Club activities.
Operating in a unique, semi-autonomous environment: The function is distinct within the Bank and relies heavily on the jobholder’s expertise, judgement and energy to deliver a high-quality sports, activities and facilities offering. The role requires swift, decisive action when issues arise, given the variety of stakeholders and daily situations.
Balancing resources with growing employee expectations: A key challenge is managing finite resources while meeting increasing demand for recreation and health-related services. Successfully delivering this requires effective management and the ability to motivate and develop the team.
Sustaining engagement through innovation: Creative thinking is essential to respond to evolving leisure and wellbeing needs, maintain strong participation/utilisation, and maximise the Bank’s investment in employee wellbeing.
Influencing across governance and funding priorities: Strong stakeholder management is required to align priorities between the WSC Committee and the Bank, particularly regarding funding decisions for activities and ad hoc events.
Managing financial complexity under tighter controls: The role demands strong analytical capability and financial acumen to manage two sets of accounts and Bank/staff contributions. A commercial, disciplined approach is needed to maintain service quality while meeting increasingly stringent financial controls.
Keeping pace with broader wellbeing trends: As the remit extends beyond sport and recreation, the jobholder must stay current on market trends and continue developing knowledge in areas that support holistic wellbeing—such as health, diversity, arts, parenting, retirement, self-enrichment, volunteering, charities and environmental initiatives—aligned to the Bank’s social and corporate responsibility commitments
