Haynes International Manufacturing Engineer in Kokomo, Indiana
Opportunity:
To provide Metallurgical & Process support to Manufacturing in our shared goal of improving safety, quality, delivery, and cost while ensuring that our products meet the internal and external requirements of the customer order.
Qualifications (Required and Preferred):
Education: BS Engineering (R) Metallurgical or Materials Science (P) or other Engineering specialty (R)
Experience: 0-5 yrs. (R); Will consider recent graduate; melt-related experience (P)
Areas of Knowledge: Basic materials science (R), Ni- and Co-based Metallurgy (P), Melt methods/technologies (P), Mechanical & Chemistry Testing methods/technologies (P), Statistical Process Control (P), Wrought Manufacturing Processes (P)
Skills: Observational and Analytical skills, Project Management, Effective communication & technical writing skills, and functional computer skills (Word/Excel/etc.) (R); Leadership and Haynes-specific computer systems (e.g., Shopfloor and AX system). (P)
Role Responsibilities:
Manufacturing Processes Control:
Provide daily technical support to meet the required melt schedules within specification control limits
Identify/monitor/control appropriate parameters in the melt shop area to maximize product yields and reduce scrap/rework and other off-quality costs
Maintain key trend data for the VIM/ESR area
Utilize computer systems, i.e. Shopfloor, MARS, Targit, etc., in daily work, for data analysis, and trending reviews
Quality Systems:
Disposition quality and/or metallurgical Product Reviews in a timely manner
Analyze trends on material issues related to Product Reviews
Maintain, develop, and improve Standard Operating Practices/Quality Control Instructions, as needed
Process Metallurgy:
Demonstrate a sound understanding of composition and metallurgy in daily activities and decision-making
Provide metallurgical support for the VIM/ESR melt shop to ensure the product meets the specification requirements
Provide Marketing/Sales/Customers with relevant metallurgical and process information, as requested
Processes Used:
Utilize the Process Deviation System to initiate and summarize improvement trials
Work as directed on process planning for special projects
Identify and analyze metallurgical sampling data for demonstrating process capability
Communication:
Summarize monthly input for the Manager of Melt Materials monthly report in a timely manner
Communicate, as necessary, material processing information to all colleagues and Key Cross-functional relationships
Support "No surprises" in communicating relevant problems/issues to manager and relevant supervisors
Leadership:
Conduct daily duties in an effective and professional manner.
