In this role, you will work in one of our IBM Consulting Client Innovation Centers (Delivery Centers), where we deliver deep technical and industry expertise to a wide range of public and private sector clients around the world. Our delivery centers offer our clients locally based skills and technical expertise to drive innovation and adoption of new technology.

Your role and responsibilities

As an Associate Application Consultant at IBM you will help us usher clients into a new age of future-looking technology. You will be assisting clients in the selection, implementation, and support of applications, methodology, and tools. You will advise clients on application development methodology and tools, and perform as expert on application development for existing or new applications. In this role you will also help guide and teach clients' project members.

This position will be based within the Hybrid Cloud & Data service line.

Required technical and professional expertise

• Majors: Computer Science, MIS/IT, Computer Engineering, Data Science, SW Engineering, or related fields

• Outcome focused, possessing a high level of resilience, you demonstrate the flexibility and resolve needed to achieve success across a broad range of consultative contexts.

• Ability to understand clients’ needs and challenges, and apply creative and logical approach to identify solutions

• Exceptional quantitative and qualitative analysis skills and ability to derive recommendations informed by data and insights and experience mapping capabilities.

• Powerful communication and storytelling skills, with an ability to communicate complex situations clearly and simply.

• Strong interpersonal skills with ability to collaborate and work effectively in a team environment, able to build direct working relationships across all levels of the IBM and client teams.

• Openness to assist clients in the design, business architect, process development, functional implementation, and support of applications.

Preferred technical and professional experience

• Highly motivated, with clear evidence of drive and significant achievements.

• A passion for innovative ideas, coupled with the ability to understand and assimilate different points of view.

• Drive to overcome the most challenging or difficult obstacles and look for ways to improve results.

• Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently and meet deadlines, while maintaining focus in an environment with conflicting demands.

• Certifications: Microsoft Fundamentals (Azure, Data or AI); Associate, Professional, or Specialty (Aspirational) in-progress certifications are fine

• Experience: Cloud native projects (academic, personal, or internship count); Agile ways of working (ambiguous requirements, evolving scope); Programming (read, debug, and explain code)

• Skills/Tech: Programming fundamentals (.NET/ASP.NET, C#, Java, Python, or JavaScript/TypeScript.); SQL Basics; networking basics, Terraform/CloudFormation, Linux fundamentals

• Familiarity with Microservices architect and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP)

• Passionate about use of AI technology for business advancement; and enjoys experiential learning

Ability to think laterally and consider multiple solution options for a given problem

Operational & consulting mindset (translate technical work to business impact); Communication (ability to clearly communicate technical concepts - verbal and written); Professional readiness (comfort in client-facing environments)

Technical understanding of modern software development patterns

Flexibility to work across architecture - building both front-end and backend

Exposure to cloud and AI concepts such as Azure services, data platforms, security, and AI models through coursework, labs, internships, or personal projects, with a willingness to keep learning.

Experience using tools like Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar AI assistants to research, write, analyze, and improve productivity, while applying critical thinking and validation.
