Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for effective cleaning in designated areas of the facility. The primary focus is ensuring health and food safety on a daily basis. This is achieved by understanding and applying GMPs, SSOPs, and all plant policies and procedures. Employees, customers, and consumers all benefit from the work of the sanitarian, as it ensures a safe and high‑quality product.

This position is also responsible for complying with all safety work rules at all times and reinforcing Safety as a Core Value. The role requires consistent adherence to all policies, procedures, and activities related to Food Safety and Quality, in order to reduce product and process variability.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Disassemble, clean, sanitize, and reassemble production equipment, and clean/sanitize production work areas using pressure sprayers, foamers, and other sanitation equipment.

  • Assist with setup and startup of designated production equipment such as ovens, pasteurizers, etc.

  • Assist with Clean Out of Place (COP) procedures.

  • Inspect and maintain rodent control stations.

  • Complete all required paperwork accurately and on time.

  • Assist with production tasks as needed.

  • Work effectively as a team member.

  • Assist with the use of power jacks and forklifts as needed.

  • Safely lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Adhere to safe work practices, follow GMP and HACCP guidelines, maintain sanitary conditions, and ensure product quality to support SQF Level 3 certification. Report to management any conditions or practices that may negatively impact food safety, product quality, or personnel safety.

  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by communicating and interacting effectively with customers, clients, coworkers, and management.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • some prior experience or training required.

  • Ability to read a limited number of two‑ and three‑syllable words and recognize similarities and differences between words and number sequences. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

  • Ability to add and subtract two‑digit numbers and multiply and divide using 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of U.S. currency, weight, volume, and distance.

  • Ability to apply common‑sense understanding to carry out oral instructions. Ability to handle problems involving one concrete variable in standardized situations.

  • Ability to obtain Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) certification.

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Ability to climb ladders safely.

  • Ability to follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), safety regulations, and sanitation procedures for the area.

  • Ability to work indoors in a damp environment with industrial‑strength cleaners and chemicals.

  • Ability to wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the position.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS

  • Basic mechanical skills with the ability to disassemble and reassemble production equipment.

  • Ability to learn Confined Space Entry procedures and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) requirements.

  • Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) certification.

  • Ability to learn and follow chemical safety training.

  • Strong attention to detail when reassembling equipment.

  • Good written, verbal, and communication skills.

  • A combination of education and experience that enables successful performance of the essential duties.

  • Ability to operate specific equipment or tools as required.
