BAE Systems Senior Chief Engineer in Kingsport, Tennessee

Job Description

BAE Systems, one of the world's leading defense contractors, has an opening for a Senior Chief Engineer at the Holston Army Ammunition Plant in Kingsport, TN. The Senior Chief Engineer will lead multi-discipline engineering teams including Chief Engineers on multi-million dollar industrial design and construction programs.

Holston AAP has provided high quality explosives for our soldiers since WWII and will continue to push the frontier of energetic material synthesis and manufacturing with your help.

Overview:

  • Leads and mentors other Chief Engineers in support of the Holston Capacity Expansion projects.

  • Engineering lead for modernization programs in support of additional manufacturing capacity through plant modernization design, development and construction programs.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the technical project team in the application of BAE Life Cycle Management processes and methods used in the design, development and commissioning. Guides and develops the requirements, processing methods, equipment and engineering tasking for design, construction, and commissioning.

  • Create the technical development plan and overall engineering tasking. Lead the technical team in meeting schedule within budget. Provide regular updates to progress.

  • Provide technical risk management for the project.

  • Coordinate the technical aspects of modernization programs with the overall OSI (Ordnance Systems Inc.) team.

  • Lead internal engineering or external suppliers in the development of drawings, statements of work, and specification packages for procurement of equipment or services.

  • Support the transition to production following commissioning

  • Prepare budgetary and engineering estimates.

  • Supervise subcontractor work to assure satisfactory performance of the scope of work.

  • Prepare schedules regarding assigned technical tasks and provide status on tasking.

  • Prepare work flow schedule and process task duration estimates.

  • Responsible for assisting the Program Director and Project Managers in development of the budget, approval of purchase requisitions and of invoices.

  • Performs other duties as required.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

Bachelor Degree in Engineering required; mechanical, civil, or chemical engineering degree preferred.

  • Experience in the building design and construction for industrial facilities.

  • Experience in chemical processing facilities.

  • 10 years related experience, 5 years of experience in engineering design, development, and commissioning.

  • 5 years in an engineering technical project leadership position leading multi-discipline engineers, including scope development and subcontractor management.

  • Must be able to effectively communicate and interface with various functional departments and customers.

  • Experience estimating engineering labor and materials.

  • Microsoft Office experience required.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Experience in industrial utilities CAPEX type projects

  • Experience in System Engineering processes and DoD projects

  • Experience in energetics manufacturing or related capital construction

  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Project Manager Professional (PMP)

  • Experience leading $10 million or larger design projects

  • Experience with Earned Value Managment (EVM) and resource loaded scheduling is preferred

  • MS Project experience preferred

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $122400 - $208080

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
