GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION\ Performs supervisory and training work tasks directing construction and maintenance activities. Responsible for the overall supervision and coordination of maintenance and construction projects. Incumbents plan, develop, schedule, and prioritize projects and ensure that projects meet quality standards and are completed on time.\ \ SUPERVISION RECEIVED\ Works under the general direction of the Assistant Public Works Director. Works independently with considerable latitude for discretion and judgment. Work is evaluated through conferences and performance review of the results obtained.\ \ SUPERVISION EXERCISED\ Exercises supervision directly over a subordinate staff of construction and maintenance personnel in the Public Works Department.\ \ \

Minimum Qualifications/Special Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Graduation from a high school or GED, supplemented by course work or training in construction and maintenance.
  • Three to five (3-5) years experience in construction and maintenance in the relevant field of the Public Works Division.
  • Two (2) years of supervising experience with supervisory experience in public sector preferred.
  • OR an equivalent combination of education, experience and training equivalent to the above minimum requirements.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid Arizona Drivers license appropriate for the type of equipment being operated.
  • May require other specialized licenses or certifications not listed below depending on assignment.
  • Required to provide own hand tools.
  • Based on assignment, may be required to participate and obtain NIMS (National Incident Management System) training certifications.

\ STREETS

  • Minimum of CDL - Class A; Endorsements as required by the division.
  • Traffic Control Supervisor certification is desired prior to the interview. Successful applicants who do not have a current certification will be required to obtain one within 6 months of hire.

Supervises plans and coordinates the work of a team of employees in assigned operational areas including wri ing and reviewing scopes of work and work-related procedures, establishing deadlines, priorities and work sequences.

Makes adjustments to schedules, priorities, and work sequences to accommodate equipment breakdown, material delays, or unplanned absence.

Trains and instructs employees in proper use, general cleaning, maintenance, and safety inspection of vehicles, equipment and tools. Monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety, and ensures personnel perform work duties and activities are in accordance with Federal, State, local and City laws, regulations, ordinances, policies and procedures.

Provides leadership and supervises assigned employees, which includes participating in hiring and disciplinary decisions of assigned staff; providing and/or recommending employee development, participates in employee performance management.

Confers with Project Manager for planning, review, coordination and implementation of projects.
