Job Duties: Workers perform a wide range of orchard and nursery tasks, including planting, cultivating, pruning, and harvesting fruit as directed by supervisors. Responsibilities may involve tilling soil, planting stock, removing rocks and debris, assisting with irrigation, completing minor repairs, and cleaning equipment. Nursery duties include pruning and planting roots, weeding, grafting, delimbing, spraying, and applying herbicides. Spray applicators handle pesticides, fungicides, fertilizers, and herbicides, maintain spray equipment, keep application records, and communicate with managers about crop or equipment concerns.
Pruning work requires using assigned tools to shape trees properly, remove unwanted branches, and stack brush. General orchard maintenance includes clearing debris, mowing, fencing, landscaping, trimming vegetation, and removing damaged trees. Harvest crews mechanically pick cherries, while apple orchard tasks include pruning to specific standards, building and maintaining trellis systems, mowing, spraying, installing and repairing irrigation, training tree growth, managing weeds and pests, and adjusting crop loads to support healthy production.
