This role will be based onsite in Kermit, Texas
How You Will Make an Impact
The Mine Planning / Geology Intern will support daily and weekly mine planning activities, production reconciliation, and drone survey data collection. This role offers meaningful exposure to the operational and technical foundations of mining, including site mapping, exploration drilling and geological modeling, haul cycle analysis, stockpile tracking, and volumetric accuracy. Interns will work directly with planners, geologists, and operations personnel to support efficient, reliable site performance.
Key Responsibilities
Reconcile actual production vs. mine plan to ensure accuracy and identify deviations
Assist with drone site surveys, including data collection, measurement validation, and surface updates
Analyze haul cycle times to identify bottlenecks and opportunities for improvement
Support mine planning tasks through data organization, mapping updates, and field observations
Help ensure consistent and accurate communication of production and survey data to operations teams
Participate in exploration drilling, data QC, and improvements to the sitewide mine plan
Expected Deliverables
Weekly Reconciliation Report: Comparison of planned vs. actual production, highlighting variances
Stockpile Accuracy Summary: Assessment of stockpile volumes and reconciliation confidence
Feed Variability Analysis: Evaluation of material consistency feeding into downstream processes
Qualifications
Currently pursuing a degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geology, Geospatial Sciences, or a related field
GIS Experience – ArcGIS or equivalent (Global Mapper, QGIS, etc.)
Understanding of basic geology principles
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
Comfortable working with data, spreadsheets, and basic mapping tools
Interest in mine planning, drone surveying, geology, and field operations
Ability to work outdoors in field environments
Strong attention to detail and clear communication skills
Drone experience and/or 3D geo-modeling experience a bonus, but not required
