Amentum Elevator Technician in Kennedy Space Center, Florida

Purpose and Scope:

Amentum is seeking an Elevator Technician to Independently perform electro/mechanical maintenance, modification, troubleshooting, repair, adjustment, test, and operation of various types of electrically and hydraulically operated elevators. Perform any work assigned to the employees in the classification. Perform work in other classifications when incidental but necessary to accomplish the work assignment.

Job Duties and Essential Responsibilities:

  • Work from verbal information, schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, vendor manuals, and applicable national, state, and municipal specifications, codes, and ordinances, including but not limited to the American National Standard Safety Code for Elevators, Dumbwaiters, Escalators – ANSI A17.1, and American Standard Practice for the inspection of Elevators – A17.2.

  • Perform functional and operational tests of refurbished, repaired, and modified elevator equipment, assemblies, and system.

  • Use electrical and mechanical test instruments, measuring devices, and shop tools.

  • Maintain logs and records, as required.

  • Work in conformance with proper codes, ordinances, sketches, specifications, blueprints, written and verbal instructions.

  • Participate in extensive training to improve and maintain technical proficiency in various company's product lines building on your skill set.

  • Clean and maintain equipment, and work areas.

  • Collaborate with Engineering personnel to enhance system performance.

  • Perform work in other classifications when incidental but necessary to accomplish work assignment.

  • Performs duties in compliance with Federal, State, local, NASA and Air Force laws and regulations and requirements and KSC/CCAFS energy management conservation regulations, collective bargaining agreements, security, safety, hurricane and other specialized programs or contractual requirements relating to the business of the section, working within the limits of established policy.

  • Performs other related and/or associated duties as required.

Required Education/Certifications/Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent and

  • A recognized apprenticeship training program plus 2 years of experience OR

  • Military or Civilian vocational training plus 2 years of experience OR

  • 5 years of direct work-related skills, knowledge, and experience

  • Possess and maintain required security clearances and area permits necessary to meet Federal, State, local, NASA, and Air Force requirements and to perform assigned tasks.

Preferred Education/Certifications/Experience:

  • Experience with MAXIMO, desired.

  • Certified Elevator Technician (CET) certification, preferred.

Required Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction, procedure manuals, schematics & blueprints.

  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand electrical drawings and possess ability to work safely on both energized and de-energized equipment.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

  • Working knowledge of computers and work-related computer programs associated with the position.

  • Able to interact with customers and coworkers in a courteous, professional, and effective manner.

  • Good communication and analytical skills.

  • Ability to pay close attention to detail.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgement and reason.

  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.

Other Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain required clearances/badges as required by program and position

  • Must have the ability to communicate in English, both verbal and written in an effective manner.

  • Must be able to pass applicable medical certification.

  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Lift, push, pull, and carry heavy objects exceeding 30 pounds. Walk, stand, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, and bend/twist the body for extended periods of time. Work at heights. Walk up and down stairs frequently. Climb ladders and scaffolding. Use hands to handle, control, feel objects and tools, and adjust equipment controls. Frequently perform repetitive movements. Ability to correctly perform, with corrective devices, tasks that require close visual acuity, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus. Wear job-, task-, or requirement-related PPE such as safety shoes, hearing and eye protection, hard hat, respirators, gloves, and fall protection. Tolerate indoor and outdoor extreme cold, heat, and humid conditions for extended periods of time. May be required to work in areas where high noise hazards prevail. May be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and electrical shock hazards. May be required to work a flexible schedule and on alternating workdays to meet mission and customer requirements.
