MAIN PURPOSE
The Quality Control Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day management of the Quality Control team while ensuring compliance with quality standards and regulations, including IECEx, CE, and ATEX certifications. This role includes coordinating inspection and testing activities, managing documentation, assisting with ISO internal audit processes, promoting Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) practices, and safeguarding information security. The Quality Control Coordinator fosters a culture of continuous improvement, compliance, and safety within the organization.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Quality Control Department Leadership
Assume day-to-day operational leadership of the Quality Control Department, ensuring effective execution of inspection, testing, and compliance activities across all applicable product lines.
Plan, allocate, and prioritize workloads to ensure resource optimization, adherence to production timelines, and sustained quality output.
Provide technical direction, performance oversight, coaching, and mentorship to Quality Control personnel, ensuring competence, discipline, and accountability within the department.
Identify capability gaps and actively drive skills development, cross-skilling, and succession planning within the Quality Control team.
Quality Management System (QMS) Execution & Compliance
Ensure ongoing implementation, adherence, and improvement of Quality Control processes in line with IECEx, CE, ATEX, and ISO 9001 requirements.
Act as a custodian of quality discipline, ensuring procedures, work instructions, and quality records are consistently applied and controlled.
Monitor quality performance indicators and initiate corrective or preventive actions where deviations or risks are identified.
Inspection, Testing & Product Release Oversight
Oversee and coordinate all inspection and testing activities to ensure products meet regulatory, customer, and internal quality requirements prior to release.
Ensure all inspections and batch tests are executed competently, recorded accurately, and traceable in accordance with certification, contractual, and statutory requirements.
Escalate critical quality risks or failures to manage
Non-Conformance, Corrective & Preventive Action Management
Own the identification, logging, tracking, and closure of quality non conformances within the Quality Control scope.
Coordinate root cause investigations and ensure effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) are implemented, verified, and closed within agreed timelines.
Prevent recurrence of quality failures through systematic analysis, lessons learned, and procedural improvements.
Audit & Certification Support
Play an active role in ISO internal audits, external surveillance audits, and certification audits (IECEx, ATEX, CE), ensuring Quality Control readiness at all times.
Ensure audit findings related to Quality Control are addressed thoroughly, sustainably, and within defined closure periods.
Maintain audit-ready documentation and ensure the department operates in a state of continuous compliance, not reactive readiness.
Documentation, Traceability & Record Integrity
Ensure the accuracy, completeness, integrity, and control of all Quality Control records, including inspection reports, test results, batch records, concessions, and compliance documentation.
Enforce proper document control, revision management, and retention practices in accordance with QMS and information security requirements.
Ensure traceability of products, materials, and decisions throughout the quality lifecycle.
Health, Safety, Environmental (HSE) Leadership
Actively promote and enforce safe working practices within the QualityControl environment.
Ensure risk assessments, safe operating procedures, and hazard controls are understood and applied by the team.
Participate in incident investigations and support continuous improvement of safety culture within the department.
Information Security & Confidentiality
- Ensure that Quality Control data, test results, certification records, and technical information are handled in accordance with information security
policies.
Protect sensitive company and client information from unauthorised access, misuse, or loss.
Continuous Improvement & Risk-Based Thinking
Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving quality performance, efficiency, compliance robustness, and risk reduction.
Apply risk-based thinking to Quality Control activities, proactively identifying potential quality, compliance, or safety risks before they escalate.
Support improvement projects using structured methodologies (e.g.corrective action cycles, root cause analysis, Six Sigma principles).
Cross-Functional Stakeholder Engagement
Act as the primary Quality Control interface with Engineering, Production, IMS, HSE, Supply Chain, and Management.
Ensure quality requirements are clearly communicated, understood, and integrated into upstream and downstream processes.
Provide objective, fact-based input to management decision-making relating to quality issues, deviations, or concessions.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
National Qualification N6 Electronics /Electrical / Trade
Relevant certifications specific to IECEx, CE, and ATEX standards would be an advantage.
Relevant certifications in quality control (e.g.,Six Sigma, ISO9001, Total QualityManagement) are highly desirable.
Accredited through MASC on SANS1438 and SANS1515 Batch testing
ISO9001 Awareness Training
ISO9001 Internal Auditor
Minimum of 5 years of experience in quality control,assurance, or compliance within an industrial or manufacturing setting, with specific focus on IECEx,CE, and ATEX certifications.
Minimum of 2 years' experience Technical Experience
Proven experience in implementing and maintaining quality processes in compliance with CE, ATEX, and IECEx standards.
Experience in implementation and training with regards to the use of tools and equipment
Computer skills (MS Office package)
Valid driver's license
