Job Information
Actalent Manufacturing Test Engineer in Keizer, Oregon
Role Summary
We are seeking a Triage & Root Cause Analysis professional (Manufacturing Test Engineer, Test Engineer, R&D Engineer, Hardware EE, Systems Integration Engineer, or similar) to serve as a front‑line troubleshooter for robotic system failures, both in the field and in internal testing environments. This role functions as the tip of the spear for diagnosing robot issues—performing first‑pass triage, isolating known failures, and clearly documenting and escalating novel problems.
This is not a repair, redesign, or long‑term failure ownership role. Success in this position comes from strong technical troubleshooting skills, disciplined root cause analysis, clear communication, and excellent ticket and documentation.
What You’ll DoDefect Triage & Troubleshooting
Act as first responder for reported robot defects and anomalous behavior
Collaborate closely with Engineering to understand known issues, system behavior, and existing error codes
Perform initial triage by reviewing:
Telemetry and system logs
Video recordings
Error codes and system alerts
Conduct second‑level troubleshooting using standard diagnostic tools such as:
Multimeters
Oscilloscopes
Eliminate known root causes and clearly identify failure modes
Document confirmed root causes or escalate novel, undefined issues to Engineering with clear supporting data
Root Cause Analysis & Documentation
Apply structured root cause analysis techniques (e.g., 5‑Why, Fishbone, FTA, 8D) to ambiguous or intermittent failures
Partner with Engineering to:
Learn newly identified root causes
Translate findings into clear troubleshooting guidance
Build, maintain, and continuously improve troubleshooting documentation for broader operational teams
Ensure findings are clearly captured in ticketing and tracking systems
Required Skills & Experience
BS in Electrical, Hardware, Mechatronics, Robotics, Mechanical, Systems or similar degree
2+ years of experience in a troubleshooting, triage, manufacturing engineering, or systems support role
Strong hands‑on electrical troubleshooting skills
Proven experience with root cause analysis methodologies
Comfort working with partially defined or unknown failure modes
Ability to clearly document findings and communicate technical issues across teams
Technical Skill Set
Root cause analysis tools:
5‑Why, FMEA, FTA / fault tree analysis software, Fishbone (Ishikawa), 8D
Electrical and systems troubleshooting:
Hardware, PCBA, firmware, and software interaction

Ethernet, EtherCAT, CAN bus
Actuators and motor control fundamentals
Software and diagnostic tools:
Command line interfaces
Python and Bash (basic to intermediate)
Experience working with ticketing, triage, and defect tracking systems
Nice to Have
Exposure to safety‑critical systems
Experience with:
Thermal issues
Vibration analysis
EMC/EMI considerations
Background in robotics or complex electromechanical systems
What Success Looks Like
Known issues are quickly identified and filtered without unnecessary escalation
Novel issues are escalated with clear data, context, and hypotheses
Engineering teams receive high‑quality, actionable triage inputs
Troubleshooting documentation improves over time and reduces repeat investigation effort
Interested and qualified LOCAL/REGIONAL talent who can report to the worksite each day are encouraged to apply.
