Role Summary
The Drafting Manager is responsible for leading and supervising the drafting team, coordinating design activities, and ensuring that all projects meet established specifications and timelines. This role will support Drafting Technicians with project management of drafting projects, as an expert in drafting and modeling software and professional development. All activities will be performed in support of the strategy, vision and values of JE Dunn.
Autonomy and Decision-Making: Makes decisions on non-routine matters, provides recommendations to supervisor, and refers all exceptions to supervisor.

Key Role Responsibilities - Core
DRAFTING MANAGEMENT FAMILY - CORE
Ensures drafting projects adhere to project deadlines and quality standards
Continuously improves drafting processes utilized by the drafting team, collaborating with other departments to ensure processes support the success of all departments
Oversees drafting projects from conception to completion, ensuring compliance with specifications, regulations, best practices and established standards for drafting and design
Manages the process for reviewing and checking drawings and designs produced by the drafting team for conformance to internal drafting standards and accuracy
Reviews and coordinates models and drawings produced by the drafting team to ensure the components can be efficiently manufactured
Coordinates with design managers to ensure the accuracy of scope specific information on drawings produced by the drafting team
Coordinates with other internal departments to ensure seamless project execution
Manages project budgets and resources, ensuring optimal use of materials and team time
Provides input to the estimating and project management teams on expected durations, possible changes to improve efficiency, and constraints
Makes recommendations to leadership on revised best practices and improvements to project bottlenecks or constraints
Makes recommendations with supporting data to leadership for additional team resources and changes to team structure and workflow
Evaluates software available and makes recommendations to team on specific use case for each project
Tracks and reports on drafting project progress to managers and other stakeholders.
Develops and implements training program for drafting team members, focusing on new team member introduction to the construction drafting field and introducing experienced team members to new tools and resources
Leads and models a culture of accountability, leaning, and continuous improvement for the drafting team

Ability to perform work accurately and completely, and in a timely manner
Communication skills, verbal and written - Advanced
Knowledge of organizational structure and available resources
Ability to identify common construction materials and shop equipment
Proficiency with 2d and 3d design software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Revit, Rhino, Tekla, Inventor, etc.) – Advanced
Experience incorporating point cloud data into a design model
Excellent project management and organizational skills
Experience modeling components that will be produced by Computer Numeric Controlled (CNC) equipment Experience with computer automated machining (CAM) software - preferred
Proficiency in parametric modeling software (Fusion 360, Autodesk Inventor, Solidworks, etc.) or 3D modeling software (Tekla, SDS2, Rhino, Revit, etc.)
Proficiency in math-based skills and ability to convert between units
Knowledge of layout practices
Ability to read and understand plans, drawings and specifications
Ability to assess and optimize project productivity
Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, both internally and externally
Education
High School Diploma or GED (Required)
Associate’s degree in design, drafting, architecture or related field (Preferred)
Vocational or Technical training (Preferred)
In lieu of the above requirements, equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
Experience
8+ years’ design or related experience (Required)
8+ years’ experience drawing components for construction or manufacturing projects (Required)
0-2 years of experience managing functional teams (Preferred)
Working Environment
Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
Maintenance facility environment, may be exposed to varying temperatures, moving equipment, noise and exhaust fumes
May require periods of overnight travel
Ability to work on site as needed
May require working overtime as needed
Must have reliable transportation
Frequent activity: Sitting, Viewing Computer Screen
